Greedy Stupid Aruba Play, mroban, 12. Sep 2003 20:41

So there I am in the Aruba satellite gone before midnight and I decided that I did not deserve to rebuy after my awful play. Here is the play that busted me:

I was just below average stacked at this point, had lost 400 chips with an A9 and flopped 99J. I raised, got two callers and the turn came a T. I checked (dumb?), check then the button bet out 400. I called (moronically). I mean if I didn't raise, I was done with the hand, right? Anyway, I fight back to T1100 and get this hand:

I get 88 UTG a limp and get 4 callers plus the BB.

Flop (board: 8s 9c 2d):

ductman bets 40. njlou15 folds. fulltiltboogy
raises to 80. latestlines2 folds. get2u folds.
ductman calls.

He bet and I just made a baby raise to get him to play to the turn. Very stupid, should have ended it right there with a huge raise.

Turn (board: 8s 9c 2d Js):

ductman checks. fulltiltboogy bets 360. ductman
calls.

Right, no bet preflop so of course he could be playing TQ. Why am I betting into him here?

River (board: 8s 9c 2d Js Ah):

ductman goes all-in for 985. fulltiltboogy goes
all-in for 540. ductman is returned 445 (uncalled).

Ductman kicked my butt drawing me out. I am a greedy stupid jerk who should have ended the hand on the flop without giving him the right odds to call. He was right for calling and I paid for it. What a jerk.

I didn't deserve to rebuy with a play like that. Nor did I deserve to go to Aruba.

Clearly I am not reading this board enough.

I stink.

I am going to sleep.

Have fun in Aruba without me.

Oh...don't beat yourself up, you are sounding like me sometimes...you have 2 weeks left to play, and you can do it. Everytime I make a stupid move(more often than not), I want to give up on this dream of becoming an excellent female poker player. I kick myself and want to throw my computer out of the window. I have learned more from dumb mistakes than from the books I have read.

You can do it...you don't stink and if you made it this far once, think how far you will go next time, knowing what you know...

Good Luck next time, because "tomorrow is another day". LOL, I'm no expert, just generally hard on myself 99% of the time. Know how you feel. And I know, people like us, become winners quickly from sheer determination.

Thanks Kimmi.

but it was a lousy greedy play and I paid for it.

Cheap lesson though. Appreciate the thoughts.

Hey mroban-

Don't get too down on yourself. I've watched you play, and you are a good player. You just got a little caught up in fancy play syndrome. Keep plugging away and you will make it soon.

thanks Moz.

I guess a bit unlucky but I don't think he calls a big bet on the flop. Maybe he does, who knows.

But you would agree that I should have bet around T200 at least, yes?

Appreciate it though.

I think I would have made a pot-sized bet. Gives him lousy odds to draw, and you likely would have taken the pot right there.
