| recently in 3-6 HE at a casino a player at my table went on a streak for 7 hands in a row and everytime he won he tipped $10, ($3 rake, $7 tip). The 7 hands he won he had taken $70 from the game. What would you say to him about this? or should you say anything at all? My response to him was, "stop tipping so much jerk your giving away our money", was that out of line? | ||

| I think that response may have been a bit out of line, since you asked. Maybe something like "wow, you're a big tipper!" Maybe he's not counting, or noticing the color of the chips. Maybe he's a big tipper. I wasn't clear on whether he gave away the whole pot, since you said "70$ out of the game) Seriously, a non-judgmental comment like "big tipper" would point it out to him if he cares, and would be non-adversarial if he doesn't care. BTW - how did he react? | ||

| .... OK - I just caught something else. "you're giving away OUR money." - emphasis mine..... What is to be gained from that? Telling a guy he is so bad that eventually you'll get all his chips? Laying claim to his money that he won as yours? Yeah, that might piss me off. In the same way that the conventional wisdom is to not berate "bad play" that pays off, since it will come back to benefit you if the bad player stays, I wonder what is gained from scolding someone who is that loose with cash? | ||

| You were out of line...and for so many reasons. First, he won. It's HIS money--not yours. He can do with it whatever he likes. Second, he was being nice to the dealers, something that doesn't happen enough. You were giving attitude to someone nice enough to help out mid-wage workers, who every day absorb God-knows-what-kind of abuse from unlucky (or bad) players. Jeez! And finally, this player is obviously on a bit of "tilt." He's giving away money, and I'd bet anything he was playing super-loose at the table. Why would you want to shake him out of that mindset? Just keep saying "wow, nice hand" and wait 'til your cards turn around. Losing is frustrating, I know...but I think you were way, way, way out of line. | ||

If someone wants to over tip a dealer, then that should be his prerogative to do so. Some people don't look at things the same way that (we) do. Let the guy do what makes him feel happy......not to mention, you're cutting in on the dealers pay. Keep that in mind as well. Another thought here: if you see a player who is constantly overtipping the dealers, he's probably not that serious about the game (his skills, etc. etc.) either. 4 POKER | ||

| you should not have said that- it wasn't your money anyway. let him do what he wants, it isn't like the dealers get that kind of treatment every day | ||

| The other side of the coin: A few months ago a guy set down at my table and started winning big pots right away (5./10 limit). He said his luck was continuing because he had just won real big at craps or something. He wasn't tipping when he won hands at our table. When he mentioned his luck, I casually said that I bet the dealers were happy for him when he tipped them with his big wins. He wasn't a tight was but was just so excited that he forgot to tip. He immediately threw the dealer a couple of red chips and tipped from then on. He didnt take offense at all, and the dealer gave me a lil smile. Like the old vauldville comedian used to say, "If you like my performance, dont throw rotten eggs at me, just throw coins." Don Quixote on 11.
