| I was just wondering when playing poker if you are trying to figure out what your best hand is cause wild cards can get you all mixed up sometimes. So anyways heres the scenario follow the queen which I hardly ever play because its all pretty much luck. But anyways I have 10d jd queen of clubs(wild)7d and kh. Im waiting on my next two cards I catch a 8 of diamonds at this point Im not really looking at my cards my last card is a dud I forget about it. After all the betting I turn my cards up and reveal that I have a straight to king. But after I have put my cards in order on the table I have not yet said I have straight to king until I realize I have the queen giving me a straight flush my opponet has four of a kind but he doesn't think about my cards and decides to take the chips off the table saying I have already declared a hand. But at the time I have not said I have straight to king Im still messing the cards around seeing what my best hand is. He told me I have already declared my hand by putting my cards in order from 9 to king. What is the ruling? I did take the pot with the straight flush but he still says I already declared it. | ||

| Back when I played in regular home games during my high school years we had a rule that "cards do the talking." Of course we used to play all kinds of crazy games as well such as follow the queen, midnight baseball, balls and so on, and with so many wild cards sometimes certain players did not realize what they had, but should someone have "misdeclared" his hand, he would be awarded the pot IF and only IF either he or someone else at the table realized the mistake and it was mentioned before the start of the next hand. In other words, if someone said "Wait a second, I had a royal two hands ago, not an ace high straight," it did not do that player any good, for there was no way to go back and verify. I suggest you implement this rule (Let the cards do the talking) if you're going to be playing crazy games with wild cards because you're bound to encounter scenarios such as the one you described in your original post. | not sure what the official ruling is on that. But, if you didn't say anything and had your cards down trying to sort them I see no problem in taking a second to call you hand correctly and if that means shuffling them around a little, so be it. Generally , if you are going to play a "house" game with you friends it would be a good idea to all agree on a house rule as to how and when a hand is officially called. Sometimes, when you are with friends who are very new to poker it would be acceptable for others to help him to call his hand as long as everyone agreed. Bottom line is agree to the structure of the game before a card is delt...it will help you stay friends after the game is over. | ||

| Play by the rules that ALL casinos poker rooms play by....."cards read". It shouldn't matter what you "say" you have when you turn your cards face up on the table......as long as you (or anybody else) notices it, either *before* you toss it in the muck, or the dealer tosses it in the muck, and it was an honest mistake. You're allowed (or should be) to call one hand (obviously by overlooking it), and then say, "Hey, wait a minute, I'm sorry, I didn't see it....I DO have the staight flush. | ||

| It depends. It is typical for a lot of home games to be "player declaration". Casino's always let the "Cards Speak". My home games have switched to "Cards Speak" in order to avoid any controversies. So I guess it depends on what the house rules are. If there are no house rules then shame on all of you. | ||
