Check-raise after the flop, Yeoda, 11. Sep 2003 13:27 | ||

| I've noticed players check-raising after the flop online and in live games. I don't understand the value. Perhaps they assume they can scare others into folding? Doesn't seem to happen, and if i'm on a nut-flush draw against their trips... you can bet I'm staying. Betting for value? If trying to get max value, wouldn't it be better to wait until the turn/river? I'm just really confused. | ||

| Well, most people are like lemmings, they just follow the "gurus" to their deaths. The "eggheads" (incorrectly) teach to check raise, so they do. Also, people just love to be naughty, and they think this is correct. In my most recent book, I spend three pages, on why NOT to check raise. People think they are making more money, and/or being able to "protect" their hands by making it two bets to any potential callers. This is a falicy. Adam the expert says" have the goods, bet the goods" Only once in a while, should you check and raise, just to show the overly-aggressive players, that just because you check, does not mean you don't have anything. Players who NEVER check and raise, get stepped on, by the good players. | ||
