| Think this will have any long-term effect on the WSOP or do you think with the recent popularity in poker Harrah's will continue the progression? http://www.marketwatch.com/news/yhoo/story.asp?guid=%7BBF6D1DEC-1975-482E-A2D9-30A6755B59A5%7D&siteid=myyahoo&dist=myyahoo | ||

| It doesn't mention anything in the article about the Las Vegas casino, just a bunch of riverboat casinos in "second-tier" markets. It seems like if you're gonna sell you'd sell everything, but who knows, perhaps Jack is gonna hold on to one just for kicks. Even if Harrah's gets the Vegas Horseshoe, however, I can't imagine it having any ill effects on the big one. If anything with their money/resources/name the tournament (and associated boom) will only get bigger and better. | ||

| I think the key is that Jack isn't involved in the Vegas Horseshoe anymore...his sister controls that part. There is no mention of the Vegas Horseshoe on Bloomberg either. | ||

| Wow...things really change fast. The initial article, which has changed from the original post, did not indicate which casino's were involved. It read as though it was an all encompassing deal that included all holdings. The most recent article, does indicate that it will be the riverboat casion's located in Hammond, IN; Tunica, MS; and Shreveport, LA. Sorry for the alarm.... | ||

| The WSOP is owned by Becky Binion Behnan not Jack so this won't affect the WSOP. The question to worry about is the World Poker Open. | ||

| Harrah's corporate mindset is completely against poker. I assume either Mirage or Bellagio would be eager to host the WSOP though. It now seems doubtful that poker will be spread at a Jack Binion run Horseshoe casino in 2004. On the up side, Jack doesn't have any interest in the LV Horseshoe, so who knows? | ||

Actually, Jack Binion retained a small interest in Binion's Las Vegas to maintain his gaming license.

Picture this-----Harrahs, whose execs hate poker, pay Jack Binion, the founder of WSOP, $1.4 B illion for his riverboats. Jack Binion returns to Las Vegas, saves the venerable Horseshoe from disaster, and turns part of it into a TV studio. Poker continues its boom, Ben Affleck wins the WSOP,plays himself in a made for TV movie, exec produces 3 more Tv poker series with Matt Damon, they co-star in Rounders 2, it makes $300 million at the box office, they make a hostile takeover of Harrahs and put huge pokerrooms in every Harrahs property. Poker becomes more popular than blackjack. The Playboy Bunnies team plays Larry Flynts Hustlerbabes on Pay- Per_ View.5 million horny guys pay the $59.95 and when its over, descend on every poker room in America. ( And a few in Europe too) Only in America----- fuel the boom--- Gary Ford

Gary Loveman, CEO of Harrahs was quoted as expressing an interest in the Horseshoe in Vegas. He stated the Horseshoe name had " tremendous brand equity". Well, in the poker world, the WSOP has even greater " brand equity ". Tomorrow I'll have another "picture this " fantasy for you to consider.

| on 12. Sep 2003 11:53 asnyder wrote: > I look forward to it As promised, picture this (2)--- Jan 10--Las Vegas----Harrahs announced the purchase of the LV Horsehoe from Becky Binion Behnen. In a related deal, the poker- hating execs from Harrahs acquired the rights to use the Horseshoe name in all of Nevada in exchange for giving Becky Behnen the rights to the World Series of Poker. A delighted Mrs Behnen promptly announced that the 2004 WSOP would be held at the Bellagio and televised on ESPN. Jan 24--Las Vegas----Casino mogul Jack Binion, along with partners Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Jennifer Lopez, announced the purchase of a 52 acre site on the strip just south of Mandalay Bay. No further details were given. Affleck and Damon, coming off a $330 million gross for Rounders 2 stated there would be a Rounders 3 but first they were co-producing and co-starring in "The Flush " with a script by Jim Mcmanus, the acclaimed author of " Definitely on 5th street ".. The title refers to the flushing country boy Jack Binoin gave to Harrahs poker-hating MBA flaunting execs. Affleck said the part of Jack Binion will star Academy Award winner William H. Macy.. The Harrahs execs are not cast at this time. | ||

| Right idea, wrong format, Gary... FADE IN INT. MOVIE PRODUCER'S OFFICE - DAY BEN AFFLECK, JACK BINION and BIG NAME MOVIE PRODUCER are seated at a table, deep in negociations. BEN (to BIG NAME MOVIE PRODUCER) I think we're onto something really hot here. The Binion family is a DYNASTY, whose dramatic story is just waiting to be told. Think about it. It has poker. It has murder. JACK (interrupting) Don't forget the run ins with the mob. | ||
