Would you stay in this hand?, mkpoker, 10. Sep 2003 19:12 | ||

| At my usual 3/6 UB table, I'm dealt 8s8h in MP. 1 limper to me. I limp, as do two others, SB folds. BB checks. Flop comes AsQsTs. It's a sure bet my pair is no good, but I've got a 4-flush. EP bets. Do you call? (I did) as did one limper behind me. Blind folds (3 of us left). Turn is 5h. Again, a bet to me. Do you call? (I did). LP raises. EP calls. Do you call the raise? (I did). River is 4s, giving you the flush. Again, a bet to you. What do you do? (I called), as did the LP player. The result: EP held KsTh for the nut flush. LP held 9s9d for a higher flush than mine. My 8s8h was the third best hand, and I chased all the way. My question: Knowing that my hand was highly unlikely to win unless I hit my draw AND even if I hit my draw, I only had the 4th best possible flush...Should I have stayed in? | ||

| I would have dumped it on the flop. There's a high chance that you're drawing dead, and if your hand is good, you aren't going to collect a dime off of it. Let it go and wait for a better opportunity. Lee | ||

| Hi, The answer is simple....NO! I would not call a bet with that hand. You not only have someone betting it UTG, you also have opponents behind you. { I don't even like that flop for you if it was a heads up situation}. If you connect on your flush on the turn, anyone who is a calling a bet on the flop, or making a bet on the flop, can be drawing to a flush that is either the nut flush, or one that is definitely higher than the one you're drawing to; or, someone may have *already* flopped the nuts there. (As you already know, your two eights are worthless now). In my opinion, that is a clear fold; and one of the reasons being.......if you hit the flush,{you know, the hand you were drawing to}...... are you going to raise it?.... Would you 'call' a bet with others behind you? THAT would be a very tough {and incorrect call, imo} to make on the flop; as you'll never know where you stand in the hand. Fold that hand and save those bets for a flop that fits your own holding much stronger. 'One that you can call with ease, and raise when you improve, .....right? That's MO. 4 POKER on 10. | This is a fold on the flop for me. With that many participants, the chances that you will have the best flush if it hits is very low. You have to ask yourself what is everyone else in with? | ||

| No, you should not have stayed in....The chance of you having the best hand were almost nil and when drawing, you need to extend the odds the pot is laying you greatly if you may be drawing to the second (or third) best hand....Your hand was VERY likely to be drawing dead tot he flush.
