When will the fish catch on?, PBG, 9. Sep 2003 07:51 | ||

| I've noticed (being in So Cal) that there are a few card clubs spreading live no-limit hold 'em and sat in a few of the games. The people are outrageously tight and stealing pots is like taking candy from a baby! I learned to play no limit from playing tournaments and I can be moderately ballsy, but I've never learned to "tune it down" for ring games because I haven't needed to. Anyhow, for anyone else who lives in Southern California or anywhere where live no-limit is a relatively new spread, how long do you think it will be before these new players realize that they're letting their pair of tens get taken for a ride by someone holding 6-4 offsuit? | ||

| The variance will be as wide as the human condition.....Some will catch on very quickly others will never have a clue! Life is Good :-) Roy Cooke on 9. | Be careful though. Certainly high agression is the way to slaughter a game like that, but things can go South very quickly. | ||

| I played no limit at Commerce a couple weeks ago and didn't see what you saw. Game was wild, less wild than a typical LL game but much looser than a no limit tourney. It was a roller coaster, lots of big plays- but since so many people limp in to see the flop it played more like a limit game where you better have the goods or someone will catch you. So I didn't see people stealing and getting away with it like you did. Where's the tight game? Sounds like I want to be in it. Eli on 9. | ...and bring a book if you're coming any weeknight this week. I think the Heavenly Hold 'Em tournament's captured a bunch of no limit hold 'em and it's been hard if not impossible to fill a table. | ||

| I've been meaning to truck on down to the Bike one of these days, just have to avoid getting shot in the parking lot :-) Question for you though- what is the Heavenly Hold 'em Tournament? I thought they were only doing Legends of Poker right now? Eli on 10. Sep 2003 07:10 PBG wrote: > ...and bring a book if you're coming any weeknight this week. | I know what you mean about being shot at. It's a toss up between Hollywood and Hustler (and if you see a cute drunk Latina who will follow you into your car, please don't take advantage of her- her mom will kill me) Why are poker clubs in such crappy places? L.A. needs something like what's inside Mirage. Anyhow, Heavenly Hold 'Em is located just above the high roller room, up the staircase. | ||

| I wasn't kidding either, there was just a shooting in the parking lot of the Bike a couple weeks ago. And the only safe way to get to Hollywood Park is by airlift. I think the problem is that LA is such a crappy place (here come the flames). Got one word for you though that might save your life- valet. Although the valets look kind of scary sometimes. Guess I'll have to stop taking advantage of the cute drunk latinas, don't want your mom on my ass too :-) Eli on 10. Sep 2003 15:25 PBG wrote: > > I know what you mean about being shot at. Welcome back PBG--please dont say you're ballsy. As Roy says the answer lies in the human condition. However, this condition can be altered by the way the fish is treated by both the players and the dealers. There are some dealers who consider themselves great players and look down their nose at newbies. There are some players who do the same. Since we all like to use the term fish lets think of this as a big fish pond right in our back yard. What if the pond becomes overrun with pirannha? What if the pond is poisoned by those who have no respect for the poker environment? Soon, the pond will be barren. We should protect the poker environment. This is a fancy way of saying be courteous and friendly to all, most especially the fish. Persuade our friends to do the same, challenge the arrogant dealers. The new generation LIKES playing poker, lets help them enjoy the game, as we lift their wallets. Then like people who come to Las Vegas they will treat their gambling losses as entertainment Fuel the boom---Gary Ford | ||

| .......You have a way of looking at things from how we can apply them for ourselves; which can really help us to learn even more about some of the "not so obvious" areas in the poker world. Well stated Gary........as usual. Dave | ||
