| This past weekend I played my first NL Hold'em tournament. One online, 40 peps, the other live, about 50 peps. Placed 6 in both the live I got money. In the live I was down to a single $500 chip in the small blind and caught a full house, I turned up the thrill factor by not even looking at my hand till after the river. I was down to being called all in just to survive three other times and busted two players with full houses. I love poker. Question: Every time I got a hand that I won with my heart rate jump up big time. The more I play does this go down? Thanx | ||

| No it doesn't, the excitement is always there when you hit the nuts.....but the more you play you better learn to hide & conceal it, because there are some good players out ther who can pick up on stuff like that. It may not show on your face, but they way you play your hand after hitting the nuts can give you away too. Good job, keep playing because one can never learn enough in this game, IMHO. | ||

| Here's my method for concealing the heart rate jumping and face getting flush. Right before the flop is revealed, I put my elbow on the table and chin in my hand, covering my mouth. With my other hand I will fiddle with my chips, just giving my hand something to do. This way I won't flinch or move in any way, and my face won't get flush if the flop hits me in a major way. | Brian! I faced a similar thing my first time I played in a home game with my family as we played more I did the same thing eli does, and cover my mouth with my hand it is really a good way of conceiling your emotions. It also helps after the hand so you don't trash talk too much. For a example just watch Chris Moneymaker in the WSOP. | ||

| In one of the poker books I read (sorry I can't remember which one) it said that a player covering his mouth is often bluffing. This post just made me think of it. Obviousally not for someone who does it every hand, but is there any truth to it? I don't get the luxury (live in OH- no casinos) of many live games except for with the same group of about 20 so my live game skills arent quite as fine tuned. | ||
