HOW AGGRESSIVE DO I GET..., socal_1111, 7. Sep 2003 22:33

I seem to find myself in this position more times than I feel comfortable with. Being new to Hold'em I'm not positive of my winning %:

I'm dealt big pairs (A's or K's)... of course I play aggressive pre-flop, but then this damn flop 2,2, x -or- 3,3 x. Now, I do know my next move will have a lot to do with position and the action the others take.

Am I correct to be thinking in the looser games, someone will see the flop w/ 2's and 3's so if he gets aggressive after the above flop, I need to be cautious?( When will you tighter players be holding a 2 or 3, if ever?) I get a bit confused here, because there are so many things that could happen from here.

How far do I go w/ this hand if I'm not quite sure there is a set waiting to eat my lunch. If I get to the river and I don't hit the boat... now I feel like it's just a coin flip if my oppnt. didn't get too aggressive, showing me he has that set waiting for me. Is this where my math skills should be coming in handy? Specific type of odds I need to be calculating? This is definitely the weakest part of my game (calculating specific types of odds). My feel for the game and my opponents are relatively good, but calculating my odds need much more experience.
Thank you very much for any advice or knowledge given.

Even bad players fold 23, if you raised the flop the only players you have to worry about is the blinds. If blinds didn't call you should be fine and keep betting your ace ace strong. If someone keeps calling you and then raises you on the river bet you are most likely beat. But usually I have to see the 3 or 2 when i have ace ace or king king

Hi socal,

If I have AA or KK and I've raised pre-flop and the board comes, as you suggested, 22x or 33x I'm looking for a couple of things; is the x coordinated with the board - for instance, is the board reading 2-2-3? God knows Moneymaker won 2.5 million with a 4-5 and I expect everyone of my LL opponents to think it's a great playable hand from any position - and I tell em so too ;) What do the suits look like? Is it a rainbow flop or is a flush draw possible? The reason I want to know the above is that they may be betting a draw strong. If I have AA, I am much less worried about such a flop than KK because I am used to seeing A2 or A3 at showdown and with me having two aces it's alot less likely that they have one of these hands (ie: with a flop of 2-2-x and I have AA they have 4 combinations of A2 possible - if I have KK they have twice that number). Much of the rest is going to be based on you knowledge of the players. I'll bet such a flop every time with AA or KK and if I get raised, I'll pop it back against almost all opponents. If they 3 bet it - I'm slowing down, but until they show me that they are willing to call two bets pre-flop with a 9-2 "cause it was suited", I'm not going to lay the hand down against one opponent. Now if you find yourself in a multiway pot and you're getting hammered from both (or all) sides - you probably need to lay it down. ie: It's capped on the flop and then 2-bets when it gets to you on the turn - I'm probably going to muck.

Also, keep in mind that they may have top pair good kicker and over value it. ie: if the board comes 2-2-8, they may have A8 and be betting it for all its worth, not realizing that they are beat - but if the turn comes a Q and they don't slow down, it probably wasn't the 8 they were betting.

Thank you Pedro and Angel for taking the time to respond. The experience you both shared will definitely help!
