First Visit To Borgata, 4 POKER, 7. Sep 2003 01:14

After being away for so long, I finally returned to my home turf and got a chance to check out The Borgata tonight.

The casino was beautiful and when I walked through the doors I felt like I was back at The Bellagio. By far, the nicest casino in all of Atlantic City, and just as nice as some of the better ones in Las Vegas.

I liked their poker room as well, and I hope they can succeed in attracting some of the players from The Taj; as there could have been more limits to chose from, preferably higher ones.

The one problem I did notice was the computer system they were using to sign up the players in their requested games of choice. All the casinos that I have been to (even the more prestigous ones, like Bellagio), still use just a simple piece of paper attached to a clipboard and it works fine. Maybe if they used more of a basic method for this, things would run a little bit more smoothly and a little bit faster as well. Time will tell I suppose. They really did put alot into this place and I for one, would love to see it succeed.

I put my name on four lists tonight. One was a P/L Omaha 8 game, where the pots were incredible. Rodger King (from King World Enterprizes) was in the game, and I was told that he lost over $80,000 in two days. A buddy of mine was fortunate enough to cash in on some of his loss; but no worries for Rodger.....the man is loaded!! Well needless to say, the seat never came open. I was on a list for a $20-40 hold-em game........3 hours later....still no open seat! Okay, maybe the $30-60 2-way game that I signed up for will get off. Nope......just an interest list; not to mention there weren't even any available tables to open up a game even if the list were to grow! Okay, I'm still waiting patiently here.......maybe the stud game will open up for me. Nope!

Well....long story short......I felt like I was part of the Seinfeld episode where they all go to that Chinese restaurant.......wait patiently for their table to be ready......and right when they give up hope, the host says, "Seinfeld, four"? Yup......as soon as I decided to call it quits and I'm headed up the escalator, I hear a faint voice call, "DR, $20-40 hold-em"! ........oh well...next time I arrive earlier I guess.

Hey Gary,

Well the P/L game "looked" great as did the hold-em game I had signed up for, but by the time a seat opened up for me, it was way too late!

I'm going to do go back there during the week, but the games at The Taj are just too good to pass up as well, being there's the tournament going on and all. Lots of money to be made! (I hope:)

Hey Gary,

Okay, here's the follow up story of my "actual" first time playing at the Borgata! 'Went there last night and played $20-40 hold-em. The game was so loose, I couldn't believe it. I'll just give ya a little bit here to tell you just how loose it was. UTG raises, I re-raise with AK suited and a player holding J-9 off calls 3 bets cold. Of course the flop came, J, J, 9......of course! He was all too happy to show me his this little gem!

I played for five hours and won a total of 2 (yes, TWO, count them.....T W O) hands, for the entire session! Both times I was in a heads up situation and the pots were pewny!! One hand I had was pocket Kings.....flopped a King, and at the end of the hand, I was *glad* that everyone else had folded to my preflop raise, as four spades wound up finishing up the flop. Luckily my opponent didn't have a spade in his hand because neither did I!

The players were super aggresive and really, really loose. I only noticed one familiar face and I was *glad* to have him at my table....just to have some stability in the game, but it didn't matter.......nothing I had held up, or nothing that I was drawing to, completed itself. Oh well. I lost $1200, but it could have been worse.

This is one of those times where I say....." Man, this game was soooo good that I was playing in last night",.......and you're response is....."Really...... how much did you lose?" (LOL)!!!
