Roy, Grant, Best advice for tonight?, Toptwo, 5. Sep 2003 11:32

Hello All,

I, like some of the others here, am playing Party Pokers tourny this weekend for my shot at the cruise. What advice would you give to me (and ALL the others) to help us have our very best chance of winning this weekend???

P.S. The tourny is a Limit tourny, with most players starting with 3000 chips, blinds start at 10-15 and progress every 15 minutes.

Thanks!

Gary

Good luck tonight.

Most likely, the advice will be to play YOUR game, so you have no regrets. Other than that, there are probably 3000 posts regarding multi-table limit tournaments in the archives.

The only issue I'm debating is...(the answer is "it's not an issue!!")

1. It's smart for a short stack to stall, play as few hands as possible.
2. It's smart for a short stack to play quickly, get in as many hands as possible at cheaper blinds.
3. It's smart for a large stack to stall, raise the stakes quickly against the short stacks.
4. It's smart for a large stack to play quickly, make the short stacks lay blinds as much as possible.

I am not Roy or Grant, but it appears that with 3k in chips and starting at 10-15, you can afford to wait a few rounds before the blinds get punitive. So, I wouldn't be overly aggressive too early.

If you get lucky, you will be placed at a semi-passive table where you may be able to limp in the early rounds and hopefully catch a few monsters so that you can play tight aggressive in the middle and later stages.

Good luck to all in the Tourny.

Steve

Hey Toptwo,

Looks like you had a decent finish... I'm curious to know what it was like. I'm playing Sunday. Trying to get geared up.

Hi Beigs!

Hello, and thanks! I had a fair showing considering I caught very few cards. In 3 hours I had AK 3 times (all 3 lost) AA 1 time (won) KK two times (won both) and KQ 3 times (all lost). I started with 3000 chips and at no time did I ever get over 4800. After 3 hours the blinds were 250-500 with the stakes at 500-1000. If you don't have a decent stack, or aren't getting good hands you can kinda hang it up. I had a LOT of what I like to call blackjack hands 3/8, 4/7,5/6 9/2 YUCK!

I took the advice of one of our other posters and played MY game, and played my cards right, so I have NO regrets about the way I played and how I finished (227 out of 1022).

I did notice that a LOT of ppl were playing typical PartyPoker. VERY loose. Seen many a person go to the river with K/2,3,4,5, off suit, and the same with A/2,3,4,5, off suit, I just didn't have the cards at the time to be in those hands.

My advice would be to possibly play a little looser at the lower levels and try to build up a bit of a stack, then tighten up when the blinds, and wagers get higher. When the blinds do get higher don't enter any pot unless you are prepared to raise it or get raised!

I would again tell you to follow the advice I was given, play YOUR game, not thiers, and have NO regrets when the tourny is over, win, lose, or draw.

GOOD LUCK TONIGHT!!!!

Gary

So, 800 people were gone after 3 hours? That's crazy. Actually... I tuned in at about the 5 hour mark and there were only 95 or so left. I guess there's a point where people start to drop like flies and a select few get all the money and tighten up for the next six hours! Sounds like fun!
