Did anyone see the World Poker Tour's tournament last night (Wed. 9/3) where the celebs played against the pros? Jerry Buss, owner of the Lakers, made it to the final table and actually went head-to-head against Lane?? (incredible player- can't remember last name).

It was mind-blowing how many times Jerry had great starting hands and didn't raise. He would continually call and let Lane see the flop for nothing. Once the flop came, it was over. Jerry was so intimidated, folding left and right, holding the best hand....AK, KQ, etc.

It was an incredible lesson for me to see how being passive and scared with good hands like that can and WILL get you crushed against a player who isn't afraid. Jerry knew he didn't have a chance in the long run and would pee his pants any time he was raised.

As a relatively new Hold 'Em player, it just proves to me that this game is not all about the hands you are dealt.... comments...agree...disagree?

I didn't see the show in question - but it was no doubt Lane Flack you are referring to. I'm sure he gave a good show. :)

Layne was drunk and acted kind of like an ass for the most part, but he is a great player.

They say that No Limit is a game for people without any fear. And, at that level, the cards don't matter as much...it is who you are playing against.

Also, Layne and Jerry play a good bit of side poker together for big bucks, so I am sure that Layne has a pretty good read on him. Add that to the fact that Layne had about a 6 to 1 chip lead when they got heads up and the result was pretty predictable.

I watched that as well. It was painful to watch Buss making all those very basic mistakes (and I'm a newbie). Flack was an ass. If I owned the Lakers, I would not be inviting him to my booth...
