| Your English teacher should be fired. I suggest instead of skipping class to play poker, you show up to school on time with your homework done and learn something. The most important skill one can have in poker is the ability to analytically think and process information accurately. Read some of the post that some of the resident experts around here have written. All the guys that are really good at this game can express themselves in an intelligent, clear, and professional manner. In other words, they are educated. You can read all the poker books you want and ask all the questions you want on this forum. But, if you can't apply that information in an appropriate manner you will never be more than the kid trying to hustle a buddy out of his lunch money. You will only get better at poker and really understand this game after your mind is educated. So go to school, do you homework, don't screw around in class, listen to your teachers, don't skip class, and learn something. It will make you a better poker player. That is the only advice I have for you, Craig. Take it for what it's worth and good luck to yourself. | ||

| I understand what your saying, we are playing this game at lunch not during class time the last thing I'd do is skip class. I think it is too immature to do in school. That's why I'm asking this question to try to find a answer I do apply my math and english in the game to come up with the right answers and I apply the information I have read in book's to the game. That's why I think I can take this kid and was wondering if conservative play is the answer. | ||

| I hope that you know that heads-up play and ten-handed play is like night and day (hey hey hey!). I'm no good at heads-up play, so I'm not going to give you any specific advice on how to play, but I'd give you the advice to go and play a lot of play-money heads-up poker online - you'll learn to adapt to your opponent. -URF | ||

| Let me sum up your posts 1) you think your friend is a fish 2) you think his friends are fish 3) you've read half a book 4) you apply your English skills to your poker game 5) you worry about looking like an idiot when losing with a good hand 6) you ask what others think of your friend, then follow that by saying he's obviously a fish Have you played with him? If so, wouldn't you know his tendencies? You are calling him a fish who chases, but you are concerned with having him draw out on you on the river occasionally. I'm sorry to tell you, but those are the breaks when you play against someone who will chase hands to the end. Occasionally, he will hit, but most of the time he won't. You simply can't win every hand, and you won't win every time you have good or even great hand. Are you fully understanding the book you are reading? It sounds to me like you are looking at this "friend" as a possible cash cow, get rich quick thing. Play poker with your friends, but don't look to get rich. Unless your school allows gambling, I would suggest you set up a home game on a night at one of your houses. Most importantly, Have fun, watch and Learn, and think long term. You've got six years until you can walk inside a casino. If you're serious about taking your game somewhere, think about where you want your game to be then, not about taking your frineds quarters today. Play poker for fun and table time for now. You have a full life ahead of you. What's the rush? Please proofread your posts. Seperate your ideas by either a punctuation, or a new paragraph. | ||

| Learn how to play heads up poker. It is a very different game from sitting in a 10 handed ring game. Don't think that you are great because you've read 1/2 of a book or 1 book or 10 books or 100 books. I know a players who reads all the poker books and she's a gigantic fish. She reads them, but she doesn't understand them. Understand poker. Don't underestimate the kid next door either. When I was 15 I would have cleaned your clock in a game of 5 card draw and I promise you that you would have thought going into it that I was A) very stupid, B) very lucky. Don't get ahead of yourself. I have to say one other thing about being 15. When I was 15 I thought that I was God's gift to everything. When I started teaching martial arts to kids it dawned on me that pretty much every boy and 90% of girls between the ages of 13 and 17 are goddamn morons who think they know everything when they know nothing. Please please please please please, be humble and learn a lot before you try to apply your skills and make a big score. Nomatter how much you know, somebody knows more than you. Those who know less are looking to avoid you and those who know more are looking to nail you to a barn door and empty your pockets. Caveat emptor. | ||

| "When I started teaching martial arts to kids it dawned on me that pretty much every boy and 90% of girls between the ages of 13 and 17 are goddamn morons who think they know everything when they know nothing." Wow, that's pretty much my take on adults when they talk to teenagers. How peculiar! And no, I'm far from a teenager anymore... -URF | ||
