Leak in game and blown confidence, Brian462, 2. Sep 2003 12:34 | ||

| Hey all, I have been playing two months now as was getting pretty confident in my game. I had been having regular success and have been studying the literature and this board dailey. Yesterday I took a pretty bad beating at a 3-6 table (B&M) which I had previosly beaten fairly easily. The easy response would be to complain about my bad luck of having AA & KK cracked on kill pots as well as a multitude of other bad beats but after a long drive home and a lot of reflection I have reached the conclusion that my game has a very large and costly leak. I seem have kept making the same mistake of getting invested into a pot and not realizing (or perhaps wanting to beleave ) that I am beat. For example in one kill pot (ie now 6-12) I had KK on the botton. I am on the botton, 2 callers, I decided just to call because raising in prevous hands did not result in any folds and I did not want to tip off what I figured was the best hand. The guy on the kill ( agressive - semi loose) checks in. Flop comes out Q32. check - check , kill player bets. I call $6 not wanting to drive the other two out yet. one calls the other folds. next card is a 3. player one bets, kill player raises and I reraise. player one folds. Kill player reraises, acting aggresively and his buddies, sitting behind him, who he has shown his hand are very antimated and encouraging the reraise. I call. next round 5th is a blank he bets and I call. He has Q3 for the boat. This is just one example of several times when I feel like I should have known I was beat and did not get out of the hand and save my self a few calls. I have very good starting hand requirements but I feel as though my post flop game is weak. Any advice of the general problem or the specific hand would be appreciated. Perhaps more importantly I played very timid after that hand and a similar occurance with AA (again on the kill) and feel as though I have lost all my confidence. | ||

| The biggest mistake you made was not raising pre-flop. Sure, Q3 might have called and you still would lose, but you can't play that way. The ONLY hand that you should consider limping with there is AA since any Ace on the board KILLS your hand. Secondly, you MUST raise that flop. Again, you are giving any ace a cheap shot to outdraw you, a very bad move long run. Finally, when the second 3 hit the turn and you saw all that action, you have to lay it down. There is no way your hand is good anymore and you are drawing to 1 out AT BEST. I know it sucks to fold KK without an Ace on the board, but you have to stop and wonder what do the other players have? Would they be ramming and jamming with AQ or QT? Most likely not. Steve | ||

| Yeah you are right about raising, I think I was a bit shell shocked from having AA cracked (which I did raise on) during a kill pot earlier. | ||

| Hey Brian, Welcome to the real world. I was playing 6-12 the other day and had KK busted by 7-4 offsuit. I know it sucks to lose to Q-3, but you should be happy to see those cards turned over. Yes, you lost that pot, but I would search for that person every single time you enter your B&M. You must value raise AA and KK everytime. The raises will make up for the few times you get busted. Good luck out there. DJpoker | ||
