| Would someone offer constructive comments on the difference(s) encountered in the "half-blind" games which are prevalent at the low-limit (4-8) games played in the off-strip casinos in Las Vegas? The blinds are only $1 and $2, with the first raise to $6. Obviously, one would not defend the small blind without a very good hand, probably one with which one could re-raise. Defending the big blind is still problematic--would one spend another $4 to protect $2? Initially, I can see the advantages of seeing a lot of hands for $2, if the pot has not been/is not likely to be raised. Also, raising may only win the blinds (i.e., risk $6 to win $3). But, if you do not raise, you allow all kinds of nutty hands to see the flop for $2,and many of them will crack your pocket Aces or Kings. The dilemma for me is how would one play differently if the blinds were $2 and $4, with the first raise to $8? Incidentally, the game plays out normally from the flop ($4) onward, with the turn and river at $8. | ||

| I like this structure, and I encounter it most places I go in Reno. It keeps more people in for the flop, which incidentally creates bigger pots which the casino wants, so they can rake their share more often. I wouldn't protect my blind of $2...not worth it. You could end up losing 12+ BB just trying to protect one with cards you wouldn't play with anyway. I personally think these blind setups are created for passive players who like to see cards and sit it out. Seems the much older crowd likes this type of play...to always see the flop. | ||
