| Hello everyone! I just started playing poker - hold'em, pretty much exclusively. I've been playing on UB for about 2 weeks, and I've seen my initial $25 swell to just under $100, and (alternately) disappear, which was the case today. So the subject of this post is all-time worst days/nights playing poker, which is what I had today. Now, I've only been playing for a short time, and I understand that as you gain experience, you see more things that defy probability and are not as surprised by statistical anomalies as a newbie (such as myself). So maybe someone can dispel my suspicion that, unbeknownst to me, I somehow accrued some considerable karmic debt that I am now paying back by taking bad beats on UB. Here is a list of hands I've had today, cracked, all of them either on a river card, or by someone going runner-runner to get some ridiculous draw. AA, AA, AA, AK, KK. Yes, that's correct. Pocket aces cracked 3 times in a 2 hour period of time. Now, I ought to qualify the KK - it wasn't really cracked, but I was consummately outplayed by someone who happened to have AA that same hand. So good for him; he actually checked pocket rockets all the way in LL online hold-em, letting ME bet into HIM with my cowboys. I don't feel badly about losing that hand at all. But for the others? Why do the poker gods hate me? Why shouldn't I feel cursed? Help me, please... Duane | ||

| Duane, Just chill out no one hates you the math just worked against you today. It happens to everyone , even the pros. Thats poker. Just keep playing solid poker and the math will eventually work back into your favor. If your bad luck continues take a break from poker and do some other things. When you come back your head will be in a better place and you'll be more likely to make good deciscions. John | ||

| Hi Duane If you are going to play winning poker you need to have a tougher mental attitude when you get beat up....Such days happen to everyone....That said, the good players suck it up and maintain a competative heart! | Hi Roy: Thanks - I guess I wanted to rant/vent a little, but you're right, of course. I know this happens to everyone. And anyhow, a bad night playing poker is better than a good night digging ditches, is what I think. Duane | ||

| I had a pretty bad day today myself. I was the chip leader at just over 20k in the $15,000 freeroll on party poker with about 180 out of 890 players left. With the blinds at 300/600, I proceeded to lose with AA, KK, AK (flopped top pair), QQ (flopped overpair), and 99 (flopped top set) and found myself short stacked at just under 3k. I picked up 2 red aces and raised an early limper. He had JT of diamonds and when 8d 9d x flopped, he was more than willing to play for the rest of my chips. He hit a queen on the river, and after getting rather psyched up about getting the big money, I found myself a disappointing no money finish. But hey, that's poker. Then I sat in a 3/6 game that was particularly juicy (I usually play 2/4, but I checked out this game and really couldn't pass it up) and couldn't catch much of anything. I dropped 20 big bets the rest of the night and decided it was time to let it go for today. But, in the end, I am confident that I didn't tilt off any extra money in the ring games, and that I played the tournament hands as well as I could have. Sometimes the cards just hate on you, but you have to be prepared to deal with it. As long as you have an adequate bankroll and a good attitude, you will come up a winner in the long run. Try to keep that in mind when you take a bad beat. If you never experienced bad beats, you wouldn't be making money off the bad players that deliver them on your good hands! Good luck to you Duane. | Hello Duane - You have experienced exactly what I experienced when I began playing online in April. I saw my $25 zoom to $80 and then dwindle to 0, then bak up to $50 then zip. etc. I did not give up - I have been reading everything I can on the game and then applying what I've learned gradually to my poker game. I was constantly bamboozled by bad beats (still am)- but I began to turn the corner when I stopped blaming the atrocious play of others and looked at my own play. Once I got a stronger handle on the cards, I began to apply pot odds - and that's where I seemed to have turned the corner. Steady solid play has got me back to *almost* break even point (i will confess from $190 in the hole....$15.84 away from break even...8^] ) and I now have every confidence I will continue on this trend and even start netting a profit. Bad beats will happen - keep your cool and just play a solid game. The way I figure, that $190 was a good investment in my education (which reminds me of another important part of this crazy game - money management - don't lose sight of what you are putting into your stake). Anyway - from one newbie to another - good luck with your game! Maud | ||

| It happens. I once sat down at the juiciest 15-30 game I had ever imagined and lost the whole $1800 I brought with me without winning a single hand. Needless to say, I flopped a couple of sets, had a AA and KK cracked, and everything else you can think of. Sometimes you're the pigeon and sometimes you're the statue. | ||
