Played my first one on-line. A silly 5.50 NL affair. Came in 4th. made 4 dollars and change. Not worth the time, risk, award. Any thought as to why anyone should waste time with one of these?

Lots of people just enjoy playing and the monetary value of the event is not an issue!

hmm... where did you play that? The SNGs at UB usually only pay the top 3 (10-seated), and they pay 50%, 30%, 20%, so for a $5 SNG, it will pay $25, $15 and $10. No payout if you don't make top 3.

Poker stars. I heard UB is too hard. Don't wan't a testicular challenge wanna make money. PS pays 4 players. I'm sure its not terribly hard to place in the money in a 2-table sitngo, but you'd practically have to come in the money fifty percent of the time to make it worth it. And that's a terrible pay-off.

I don't know if UB is harder than anyplace else... I play SNGs there all the time and money regularly. I prefer the the $20 and $50 games, as they are not as fishy, and good, solid play usually pays off. They are a great way to build up an online bankroll. The hard thing is getting INTO a game! Sometimes, they go so fast that you can't even sit down at a table.

The $5 ones are just more or less an intro level and not really worth the time if you're trying to make money.

If you expect to place in the money a majority of the time, the $30 and even $10 SNG's can be quick little ways to build up a bankroll and a nice break from the ring games.

I managed to turn a $50 deposit into a four figure sum on Paradise just from playing S and G' s.

I think they are a great way of learning the game and some useful tournament skills. As someone said the 2 table ones on Pstars are very good earners. I have played quite a lot of the $33+ ones and am earning more money on them than at a $3/6 cash game and they are more fun !

I much prefer to play a sit and go to a standard ring game.

Try Party Poker Sit and gos. Even though the structure is inferior (T800 instead of T1000 and the blinds escalate too quickly) the quality of play is ridiculously bad (usually) and patience is usually rewarded by moneying.

I have been finishing in the money about 65-70% of the time there, and it has been very profitable.

UB is (IMHO) more difficult, but like Moz says, just a little more patience required (and since the blind structure is more favorable, this is eminently doable).

Anyway, I have found the Party Poker sits to be really profitable, while UB is more fun for me because of the superior structure.

Try the higher buy-in Sit and Goes. Paradise has them all the way from $ 5 + $1 up to $100 + $8. The latter pays the winner $500, for a net of $392, and they usually take a little over an hour.
Another reason to play them is to gain experience, especially if one has not played N/L or P/L.

Good luck,

Play bigger ones and you'll make more money. Tourneys are tourneys from $5 sit-n-gos right up to the world series. It takes money to make money at them. Winning the whole thing usually helps.
