This is one of those real simple questions that only a new player can ask, and anyone with a Poker Clue can answer, but like my mom used to say…… “If you never ask, you’ll never know.”

I am an avid home game player, and play on a weekly basis with a bunch of guys, who are at the same level as me. We Post a Big Blind of $2.00 and small $1.00.

I have just signed up at a online Poker room (Golden Tiger) and was hoping someone could explain to me the betting limits.

I understand the no-limit, and the pot-limit (Can’t bet more than the size of the pot?)\
But I don’t get the part about the $2/$4 or the $10/$20.

I really appreciate someone taking the time to explain this to me, and thank you all for your past posts, they provide a insight in to matters I’d otherwise be clueless about.

Regards,

J

$2/$4 for example refers to betting boundaries. You can bet or raise in $2 increments before the flop and on the flop. The betting increments increase to $4 at the turn and river. The Big Blind in a $2/$4 game is therefore $2 and the Small Blind $1. Hope this helps. These are the kind of things I had to figure out when I started too! We always play spread limit at my home game so the strict $1/$2 structure confused me at first.

Hi,
I would recommend "Poker for Dummies" and "Hold'em Excellence" both by Lou Krieger. Everything you wanted to know, but were afraid to ask.
