| today I was in a no limit holdem tourney, hand was dealt and I had a six and nine of hearts. They were suited and the deck had been throwing a lot of low flops so I stayed with them for twenty chips, the flop turned two more hearts and a club. The bet went around for another twenty I bit/ then this one player who had been buying the buy ins with garbage cards and he showed they were went all in. I said to myself why not one more heart and this flush would rid of us of this pest. I called the cards came out zoom, no heart but he managed to put together a straight and I was out. I dont feel that it was a bad play what you think? | ||

| You're risking a large amount of chips on a draw that is a 2:1 underdog to get there. Let it go and punish him when you actually have cards. Lee | ||

| tietotree, I don't want to seem like I am attacking you and I promise I am not trying to be mean, but I think the play was horrible. The biggest mistake was in even playing those cards. It's sounds like you wanted to be in the action and were willing to use fuzzy logic to get you there. 1) With two suited cards, you will only hit the flush 3-4% of the time. It's a rarity and costs you money trying to go after it. Cards being suited are only a plus to cards that are already good in the first place, not a reason to play them. 2) Decks don't throw low flops. They are completely random and trying to make a pattern out of them is impossible. The future action of a deck is in no way predicated on it's past. 3) Even if you did hit the flush, there was a shot you'd still be beaten. People love to hold onto Ax & Kx suited. Anyone who did and caught a four flush on the flop, like you, would have stuck around and have beaten you. Do yourself a huge favor and promise yourself never to play low two-gapper cards ever again, suited or not. After you saw the flop and caught a four flush, you would consider sticking around for a small bet to catch a flush, but I would never risk my whole tournament on a draw if I didn't think there was another way to win the hand. Finally, don't let other players get to you like that. You made a faulty decision because you didn't respect another player and you wanted to go after him. You should never lower your playing standards just because another player is bad. The fact is that even the worst players get real hands from time to time and letting your frustration with them goad you into trying to take them out can be disastrous. Hey, keep playing and learning more about the game. Bryan | ||

| Read brunson Super System about connectors in a no limit game. They can be money makers, but are generally disasterous if you do not know how to play them. Playing them in relationship to the blinds and your stack size is critical as well. But as Bryan said, until you become a skill player mucking them is really the thing to do. | ||

| thanks to both of you for your advice and oppions, I appriciate them the thing bothered me when it was over and sort of killed confidence. I am just starting out, no I dont have a lot of money to spend on books even though I know they are well written and good but considering the fact I cant comprend a lot that I read ( a problem I have had for some time) I am not sure they would do a lot of good. My best touney finish to date was 8th place and my average is I get to the last three hundred people on a 1500 seat place, here on Planet I get to about 300th place of 400 by the way his straight came on the river card just where it always does on internet poker to that point he was hurting as I was. Guess we was both fishing in the murky river and he had a bigger piece of bait than I did. But like I said thanks again from this country boy will see you out there on the tables and with a lot of luck may even get to play you all someday. | ||
