In no foldem holdem where you can see just about any flop for one small bet is it worth it to get in with suited connecters down to 87
Unsuited down to 78/75 and if the flop misses has it will most times fold right there?

I play tighter than most, but it works for me. That being said I think those starting requirements are a little low especially if you don't take into consideration your position, texture of your opponents and the implied odds. BTW, I think you mean suited 78/75 and unsuited 87.

It's got to be a near perfect situation for me to play hands that low as they are easily dominated by stronger flushes and straights if you hit.

From LP in a typical LLHE game with the proper odds, I generally don't go much below JTo, T9s/Q10s.

I am sure others, including Lee Jones, will disagree with me. I would love to hear from others on minimum starting requirements for a typical LLHE game.

I decided to play a short handed 5/10 game 2 weeks ago. The other 4 players were terrible. Calling raises & showing nothing. Re-raising & then folding. Anyway, I couldn't believe I wasn't chopping this table up so I decided to do what you are asking. If I had ANY 2 suited cards or connecting cards I called for $5. There was rarely a pre flop raise. Within an hour I had all the chips at the table & the game broke.

Now my analysis: I think I was just fortunate. These players who limp in think Ace high or 1 pair is a monster & will call you down. If you play this way, then you have to catch a MONSTER on the flop or fold.

These guys were so bad, that if I caught any piece of the flop I called, never raised!

One hand sticks out. I had 9-2 spades. The flop comes K-8-2 (one spade). I call the $5. Turn card is 4 of spades, I call again. Catch a deuce on the river, then I raise. Here is where I'm fortunate. If I don't catch a spade or deuce, then I'm dead.

Try it. It was a LOT OF FUN.

I totally disagree with Ron. (sorry:( ). But I think low cards are death in a short handed game except from the button with everyone limping in front or from the blinds against no raise. You simply don't have the pot odds available to play these types of hands. Now, the original post was talking about a full table game where the pot odds are often there to warrant a call with these type hands. A player just has to have the discipline not to chase cards without the pot being the correct size to do so.

Unless it is your button, I think, IMHO, that 8-7 is a big nasty dog. More often than not, you are going to get some part of the flop, usually in the form of 3 to a straight/flush. Often you will get a flop like J-8-3. As sure as the sun rises in the east, the turn will bring a T or 9 and you will be stuck. Then you will feel obliged to call and will end up costing yourself money. Then you will miss on the river and wonder should I call just in case. I see so many B&M people playing this sort of hand and everytime I tell them "Nice try, I'm sure you'll catch next time" or "I can't believe the river didn't hit you."

I think the most important thing to remember is position. If you have any kind of book, look seriously at starting hands and where to play them according to position. Good luck. DJpoker
