| Hi all, When I know I should not I took money from my bankroll. I have this old monitor which was given me headaches en lightheadedness. It was really affecting my health and mood. The price of these TFT-lcd monitors are a bit higher here in Europe then that they are in the states ( I recently checked it out ). As it was affecting my game I thought I had to do this. Question; Would you ever touch your bankroll and if you would what would be your criteria. Keep on learning, tommyhawk. | ||

| Unlike most people, I cash out every monday. Always leaving what I started with. Most people say when you cash out the cards turn, but the way I look at it is no one is ever going to be on fire for ever. So I would rather lose the 50, 100 I started with, then take the chance on losing the 1000 I was thinking about cashing out. Becasue sooner or later it doesn't matter if your account is up money, or you have are making deposits every two hours. Everyone runs across a cold wave of cards. | ||

Buy a new monitor. That being said, if buying a new monitor entirely wipes out your bankroll then you probably didn't have enough bankroll to worry about protecting. This is not a new idea, Caro pointed it out a long time ago. Basically, bankroll considerations are only important if, 1.) you have no other source (i.e. a job) from which to replenish it, or 2.) it is large enough and you play at a high enough level that replenishing it from an outside source would be very difficult. So, buy a new monitor. Your eyes will thank you and you will play better when your eyes don't hurt and your head isn't swimming. Paul Stine College Station, TX

All kidding aside here........I would "hope" that you put your health and well-being first. Poker *has* to take a back seat to that........it just does. You'll build your BR back up again. Hey, it was the bankroll that gave you the opportunity to purchase a new monitor in the first place right? As I'm sure you also have another source of income. Well sometimes you have to dip into the ole' BR, and if doing that could help you to feel better mentally and physically........that would be a damn good excuse IMO! 4P-

| One of the things I love about having a bankroll is that it's there when I need it. Here's a perfect example: I started a new job last week, so now I have no insurance until September, when I become eligible through my new employer. Of course, my son picks yesterday to fall off the diving board at school. It's not serious, but I certainly wanted him to see a doctor. My bankroll easily absorbed the bill at the urgent care center, and made us all feel a lot better when the doc was able to tell us that, even thought he will be sore for some time, there was no serious injury... nothing that high-dosed of ibuprophen can't handle. I get most of my bankroll from playing online. If I needed to buy a new monitor, I would have no problem using my bankroll to do it. -Moz "I'm a well-wisher, in that I don't wish you any specific harm." | ||

| I love poker and treat my bankroll management very seriously, but I have completely depleted my bankroll two times this year and feel it was for good reasons. One was to pay off my credit cards, which has saved my hundreds of dollars, after rebuilding it, I used it for a downpayment on a car. I now have no worry getting to work every morning. Breaking your bankroll to give yourself a better life, isn't a bad idea, honestly I feel there really isn't even a choice. Making your life better everyday is the way to live. | ||

| Sure. Why not use your bankroll? You're making money to have money, right? Not just a bigger bankroll I hope. It isn't like poker players keep rolling up and moving to higher games until they are rich and retire. Live a little. | ||
