Is UB's 50% bonus worth it?, Dr_Monkey, 29. Aug 2003 04:56

I see that UB is running a 50% bonus now. I have a real hard time getting bonus money released at UB. They require 10 points for $1 and you get a point for every $1 raked. So that is $10 in rake to get $1. To me, that is brutal.

Party requires 5 raked hands for each $1 bonus. The rake can be as small as $0.10. You can sit at a full NL ring game and get 8-10 raked hands by spending $0.75 in blinds. (.25//50) Even at a .25/.50 limit game you can get 5-7 raked hands (they rake if pot hits $5). This type of bonus is just free money. You can sit at a table, do nothing, see 100 hands, spend $7.50 in blinds and be well on your way to getting you bonus money released.

How is everyone getting their money released at UB? I played .05/1 limit and the blinds were killing me compared to the money I was releasing. I wasn't sitting back and watching like you can on Party to release. I was playing. I prefer SnGs to ring games, but SnGs do not get any money released.

I just started playing and in under a week I've made over 300 points easy playing mostly .25/.50. And I know they havn't raked me for 300 dollars. Points are very easy to get. If you help start a table you'll get double the points. There are also tournaments that you can play for points. Getting the 50% bonus won't be a problem.

You can play tournaments for points, but they will not get you your bonus any quicker. The bonus is only counted against earned points, not ones that you win.
But sure it's worth it. It's a 50% rebate you wouldn't get otherwise. If you are going to play, it's a great deal.

Let me put it this way. I play on UB in raked games all the time with no bonus money to release. If I stick $200 onto UB and then withdraw it right back again, they'll pay me $100 just for doing what I do anyway.

I think that is very much worth it.

Oh, and it isn't for every dollar you pay in rake ... it is for every dollar raked out of the pot when you are in a hand. So if they rake $1 each pot for 10 hands and you pay your blinds then you are going to get 10 points for that orbit.

Actually, you will receive $1 of the bonus for every 10 points you earn at raked tables (this does not count tourneys or SNGs). You earn points for evey raked hand that you sit in. If you deposit $200, you can easily earn the $100 bonus in two or three long sessions.

Oops...that's what I meant. You get 1 point per dollar raked out of the pot, total.
