| Hi, New guy here. I thought I understood the best way to start out playing, but am now rethinking. I read and loved Phil H.'s Hold'em book and was dead set on only playing top ten hands. I go to an Native American facility and hit a few $1/$2 tables. Well Holy CRAP. These guys are playing 27 off suit and hitting a straight on the river. I'm sitting there with AA and my jaw hit my dwindling chip stack. I see bozos with 38 OS raising re-raiseing up to $4 to go just to see the freakin' flop. I sat with KK through 10 reraises up to 5th St. and a J came making it 2J5TJ; I had two Freakaziods raising and re-raising AFTER 5th and I finally bailed on $4 to go..... ONE HAD 26 the other HAD 59 !!!!!!!!!!!!! I tossed the KK thinkinh I was betting into two guys each with a J. What in the world is going on. This is the 4th game I have seen this in at this place and I just don't know what to do..... ANY insight would be great but I am VERY interested in advice from LL 1/2 player who actually have seen the crap and have a solution. | ||

| Rocket, Phil's book is NOT for low limit no fold em poker. You will see those hands all of the time at LL games. Get Lee Jones' ' Holdem Book. Don | ||

| Are you saying it acknowledges and understands the kind of trama I just spoke of and addresses how best to play those kind of tables? Are you serious? I am not being mean, I just am wondering if it is just flat out a perfect answer tomy plea for help or if this is just a good book for LL. | ||

| The answer is yes! GET THIS BOOK! It talks specifically how to play at these types of "No Fold 'em" Maniac games! Good luck. | ||

| Lee Jones has a better understanding of the games you're facing, which don't sound that unusual to anyone who has spent serious time in LL games. He does offer advice for dealing with the "no fold 'em" games, which he had spent a lot of time playing for research. No offense to Hellmuth of course, but when was the last time he sat in one of those crazy games? While I have only read parts of Hellmuth's book, it seems as if his top 10 hands are better designed for heads up/few caller types of games, the exact opposite of what you're playing. Eli on 28. | After searching a bit, I have a clue from an old post. Can I get a view on this: Playing a loose low-limit table with maniacs times 8 at a 10 man table must be similar to playing "play point tournies" and "freerolls" online. If this is true, and since they are "free", after getting Lee Jones book, might my best path be to play in these and see if I can beat those num-shulls online? If I can live though and beat Play Point and Freerolls, I should be able to kill those $1-$2 real-world nuts, right? | ||

I can usually make a killing in the free games but I don't always fair that well in low limit. I can hold my own in NL but for some reason I just feel lost in those crazy low limit games. If you want to be defensive than only play hands where you flop the nut or close too it. | ||

| I completely unmderstand. I was at Taj Mahal in Atlantic City playing 3/6 last weekend, and the table was full of aggressive bastards who rivered the hell out of me, etc. The young guy to my right saw every single flop for 4 hrs. He won the biggest pot of the night with J8 offsuit. I had AQ suited and hit my flush, and the betting was capped all teh way by several people. The guy hit a boat on the river and made mincemeat of my flush. I got busted by AA with 68 ofsuit. The flop was K 66 , he was playing in 8th seat so i figured him for the K, but he was playing (with 3 bets prefop) 68 off. UGHHHH. I was losing patience, but figured if K just rode it out I would get back my $150. Well, fortunately that held true and I ended the night up a few dollars. I feel your pain, and j8 guy, if you are reading this, be lucky you left without a broken leg. | ||

| Wild games like these are definitely not the best for a person early in their hold 'em career. You'd much prefer a loose passive game to a loose aggressive game. You go through wild fluctuations and it can be very unpleasant, as you experienced. I would find a different game if possible, and definitely get Lee Jones' book. | ||

| Hellmuth's book will cost you lots of money in a low-limit hold'em. Read another book. Hs book is just to compliment some one that has a good foundation established. And nothing in it should be taken as Gospel. | ||
