To Kill or not to Kill that is the question, Hatchthunder, 28. Aug 2003 07:01

I have been playing online for a couple of months now at UB and Paradise. I was wondering if anyone else enjoyed playing kill games. These games allow me to (when on a rush) maximize my profits by increasing the limits. I was wondering if anyone else went out of their way to enter these types of games? What about mini blinds? How do you all feel about these types? Just gimmicks?

I've only played a kill game once, in Reno. The gambler in me enjoyed it, but yes, I suppose it was a gimmick. It does spice up the game a bit.

The trick to playing in a kill game is that you want a game in which the opponents play the same regardless of whether there is a kill pot, who holds a half kill button, etc. If you adjust to this new data and your opponents do not, then by the fundamental theorem of poker, you have gained more EV.

I have found it very beneficial to raise preflop with average hands when I have the kill button. This raise tends to put people on the defensive and many will fold better hands than I have post flop if they even stick around to see me that far.

There are right times to do that and wrong times to do that, so be careful. If you're in a kill game where you rekill by stealing the blinds then you usually don't want to do this.

I play in a lot of kill games. I love playing kill when I have the chance, but I will never play a kill game online. The reason why is because online people play very very lose, and when you are playing in a lose game online you could have pocket rockets and get beaten with 7 2 off suit. Cause every player online wants to get in the kill pot. now when you playing in a live game people have phyisical money on the table, money that you are going to have at the end of the night or not, and that make people very careful. Extreamly careful when you are playing 20/40 and a kill pot opens up. then those stakes go to 40/80. people are much more careful of there money.

First things first... there is no such thing as a rush. You have, when in a kill game, big blinded. Most of the time you will get to see the flop on cards you would otherwise not play. Cards are just cards, they are dealt randomly, and there is no luck or will for cards.

Kill games make it a little more interesting, I guess. I play them once in awhile.

I don't enjoy kill games because after tipping, rake and posting in a kill pot I feel like I'm giving all my money away. I agree there are circumstances you can profit from though, I mean there is more dead money in the pot and bad players probably won't adjust correctly, so that's good I guess. To be honest I haven't played kill games much though.

Remember that if you have a kill "leg," you need to play tighter, because if you win the pot you have to post the kill blind. This hurts your implied odds.

Yes, I know, this is exactly opposite from the way most people play in kill games.

I totally agree with Stdioh. A kill game gives a good player an added advantage. I disagree with the post that doesn't like 72o playing against his AA in a kill game. I would lick my chops to find that game 7 days a week. One of the biggest advantages I see in a kill game is the decision to play when you've won a pot. I only play premium hands in this situation because I don't want the kill button. I want to play in KILL games but I would rather not have the KILL button. The reason behind this is I want to have good starting cards in the KILL game not 2 random cards. A lot of players want to play their KILL button and end up playing subpar hands; therefore increasing a good player's EV
