| I just started playing poker. I was bored with the typical casino games and wanted to play a game that required more skill than luck. I was wondering how much money should a beginner expect to win/lose to make an accurate assessment as to my poker future. I have also started to build my poker book knowledge with Sklansky and Krieger. | ||

| Hi Mike It depends on your ability to learn...I have seen some players catch on pretty good in the first few months and I have seen other players try for years and still never have a clue! If you put forth your best effort and still feel lost after one year.....You might want to reevaluate how you are training yourself. I do think you are on the right track by reading books. The UPF should give you some further insights. Focus when you play...Make the effort to learn! Life is good :-) Roy Cooke on 27. Aug 2003 22:53 Mike Gentry wrote: > I just started playing poker. | Don't worry about how you start out. Everyone starts out as somewhat of a fish, even Doyle Brunson was a beginner once and he learned some very expensive lessons in the early days. The main determinant of your success in poker is: Are you willing to learn from those mistakes, or will you continue to make the same ones over and over? If you have an open mind and an eagerness to learn, you'll go far. It doesn't hurt to crack a few poker books like you are doing as that expedites the learning curve drastically. | ||

| BTW, consider what you lose in the beginning as "tuition" to the poker schooled. In fact, you'll be "schooled" a lot in the beginning so don't let it get you down and don't play at limits you can't afford. Good luck! | ||
