AWFUL BEAT - TILT, Eric, 27. Aug 2003 17:16

Ok, lately I'm starting to think there is a good possibility UB may be rigged. Not only am I getting awful holes cards 90% of the time, when I do get a really good hand it gets screwed by a miracle draw. For example, today I got dealth KK, guy calls all my bets a with A 6 (no pair on board) and catches an Ace on the river to beat me taking all of my chips. Later on today I was playing heads up and got AsQs in the hole raised $2 preflop and the guy called with a K 8 offsuit. Flop comes 7 9s 6s, he bets and i raise and he calls. Turn is a Qd, I go all-in and he calls!! The river is a 10!!!! A damn 10! what the HELL happened here! I lost all of my chips (about $50) on one of the worst beats by one of the worst poker players. I was disgusted and disgusted with UB, now I am on tilt and by the end of the day will have most likely lost my entire bankroll!

I need advice! ANY ADVICE WILL HELP!
thanks
eric

I wouldn't say it was that bad of a beat. He still had 8 clean outs. I'm not sure what to tell you. Maybe you should buy zen and the art of poker. If you can't handle bad beats, you will never succeed as a winning player. You need to come to the table ready for them, almost expecting them. If you blow off a bunch of money for every bad beat, then just quit as soon as you have one. Find something else to do, your bankroll will thank you in the end.

eric, you must not slowplay at all until the right situation comes along. furthermore you did not have a bad beat. theother players just got lucky. get in there and play only the nuts as you have your whole life ahead of you. ljh

If you only play the best 10% of starting hands you will, by definition get unplayable starts 90% of the time. What is so unreasonable about that?

KK is going to prevail over A6o about 71% of the time.

An Ace will flop when you hold KK and someone else holds AX about 15.7% of the time. If one doesn't flop, there is about a 12% chance of one getting there on the turn or the river.

Learn to love bad beats. They indicate that your opponents are making mistakes. Their mistakes benefit you.

Caro says that everyone goes on tilt in turn. The secret to beating tilt is to skip your turn when it comes around. Stop playing until you are mentally balanced enough to play again.

Yap yap yap.

Blah blah blah.

Cry me a river. You think UB is rigged because somebody hit an 8 outer in a low limit game? Obviously you've never had anybody hit their backdoor perfect perfect straight against your top set in a massively bet, massively multiway pot in real life.

I've seen people do such boneheaded things and win giant pots from *me* in real life. It looks rigged online because A) Humans are paranoid and B) you can't see the shuffle.

I'm a consistent winner on UB because I play well. I get outdrawn time and time again, but not as much as I *don't* get outdrawn.

It's so weird that you mention this. I open raise (about 5 minutes ago) as the chip leader with QQ for about a third of the big blinds chips (he's medium stacked) in a sit and go. Flop is Q 5 4 rainbow, and he goes all in. Needless to say, I quickly call. He flips over A8 and catches the straight! I couldn't stop laughing for a few minutes. It wasn't massively multiway, but there were a lot of chips in there for sure!

I've had a backdoor flush made with 4d6d on a board where I had top set (queens) and an opponent had middle set (nines) and we were jamming it the whole way. If only the flush had come, pairing the board. I think that was about a $500 pot at $10-$20. *THAT* hurt.
