| I thought I was a good (not great) H'Em player until I started playing 1-2 and 2-4 online poker. This past month I played online has been brutal. The top pair or even top two pair means nothing with 5 people in the pot. On the river chances are a straight or flush will beat you. Lost my confidence and trying to get it back--quit playing online and only watch now. What put me over the edge was this hand: Had Ac Kh a capped out preflop left 5 people still in, the flop Ah Ks 7d capped out after flop with now 3 left, turn 4d this is also capped out, now the RIVER 2d. Need I say more he has 8d,3d and wins the pot. Calls NINE raises! I would have folded preflop with his hand. But, the best is yet to come--the guy raising me hand a Q,5o!!!!!!! Everyone says this evens out in the long run, but I am losing 9 out of 10 now. My question: 5-10 online looks more like the poker I know, Is this true or are the cowboys at every level. Thanks. | ||

| Two words: Game Selection! Two more words: Seat Selection! Those two concepts can make life a lot easier down in the trenches and the pricetag to learn them doesn't have to be out of reach. | ||

| Thanks, I play tight and only in position. What is a "good" game and what is a good seat? | ||

| Table selection is a key and after reading a thread here a while back about it my game has realyy become much more priofitable. The thread talked about finding a game (within your bankroll limit) that show a high percentage of players seeing the flop that has a medium avg pot size. This tells you the table has a lot of calling stations who will call your premium hands all the way to the river. Its worked magic for my game. Good luck John | ||

| I don't understand when people complain about loose games. Then others give advice on better game selection. I can't think of a better game than the one you describe where 83s calls down all those bets. That's a dream game I'd be dying to get into. Why would you want a 5/10 game that features a lot of HU play between a raiser and the blinds with fewer fish coming in with these longshots. The thing is, you remember that beat, but you don't remember all the times that same player went to the river only to fold and not show his cards on the end. This is the game you want to stay in. The "I wanna move up because that's 'real poker'" is an illusion. Yes, top pair gets run down in these games frequently. A key skill in these loose games is knowing when to lay down TPTK. | ||

| Your going to find that a lot on low limit games. I have been playing cards online for about three years and the only game I play is No-Limit $100 max buy-in, and I make about $1000 a week. Here is the catch. Online players like to play the hands more then the players. The reason why that is, is because online you can't see your opponents face, so when playing online you have to watch there betting patterns, and the speed they make there bets. Otherwise in my opinion try to avoid playing low limt games. Because if your playing 2/4 and you have a $50 pot what is $4 to see what you have. Unlike No-Limit where it's a $40 and you bet $15, $20. It make people think twice. | ||
