showing cards on the end, chris nelson, 25. Aug 2003 19:36

| We got into a debate in a homegame following a hand in which I flopped top set, got into a raising war, turn gave my opponent a str8, and I couldn't redraw. I check called. She showed and then insisted on seeing what I was raising with after I folded. I was aware that in the card rooms in CA, if a player requests to see another players card before they hit the muck the dealer may turn them over. Is this true in cardrooms everywhere? How about the higher limits? What are the exact circumstance in which it is allowed? Also, when did they start allowing this? IMO I think it wrong to show cards. If a player calls my bet then fine but a player that lost the hand shouldn't have to reveal if he/she doesn't want to. Thanks, Chris | ||

That rule is for all limits, although I personally hate it when someone asks the dealer to turn over my cards after I just lost the hand......UGH! The next time that happens to you.......Try to toss them in the muck as quickly as possible!.......LOL!

| thanks for the response. Just to clarify - if I put in a lot of raises and then fold to a bet on the river they cannot but if I call a bet on the river anyone not involved in the pot has the right to see my cards. Correct me if I misinterpreted you. Thank you, Chris | ||

| That's it Chris. It's almost enough to put ya on tilt, but I try to just laugh it off, and of course ask to see theirs the next chance I get. "play back | ||

Hope that clarifies your question. Take care, 4P-

| No. If a player bets on the end and noone has called, then noone will have the right to ask that player or the dealer for that matter for the request of seeing his cards. | ||

| I've never asked to see cards for a losing hand... I didn't know that you could ask. Is it poor form to ask? Do people get pissed (like old lady's get pissed at the check raise). It seems like a good way to pick up some free information. | ||

| i am shocked to hear that, showing cards should always be a players choice. however, sometimes i show my cards when i lay down a really strong hand just to let the other guy know when i bet strong i have something. and as far as that lady wanting to see your cards she should have been content with the win. | ||

| Asking to see peoples cards a lot generally will piss them off, which is good, they will go on tilt. Plus you get information... But the people get pissed... By the Way, I saw on the coverage of the WSOP, Scotty Ngyuen (forget how to spell his last name) was in a hand with sam Farha, Scotty Bluffed him off of his hand with a 3 5 and then Scotty showed his hand to the crowd, Then Farha said let me see the hand, and Scotty said no no, don't show it to him... Im pretty sure the dealer didn't show it to him.... ?? | ||

| Right. Because it wasn't a called hand. Scotty bet, Sam folded. | ||

| The rule should be that all hands in the showdown must be shown and the dealer should declare the winner of hand. This is to prevent collusion. Altho this is not too much of a problem in low limit home games, it can be at higher limits (i.e., when BB > $10). If I'm in the showdown I want to see the hands because I paid for the information. I always show my hand because on occasion I bluff. MouseEars | ||

| In most cardrooms any "called hand" can be seen by any player in the hand, but the rules vary between rooms. Generally speaking if you took your hand past the river without mucking it then your opponent has a right to see it. | ||
