Someone told me recently that Mohegan Sun was closing their poker room. Seems pretty short-sighted. Any truth to this?

e-babes.

It is true, I believe its closing on September 9th. I am not sure why.

That's awful. One of the most profitable casinos on the planet, and they can't sustain that room?

Ridiculous.

Rumor has it that they were not making money (hard to believe) and they are putting slots in to replace the poker room.

The room in pretty small and it almost seemed like an after tought when they built it so it was at a pretty good disadvantage to Foxwoods. They are indeed putting in slots.

Hopefully, they have some future plan for a card room because they are pretty scarce up in this neck of the woods.

It seems like poker rooms are in casinos as a sort of 'hospitality' service provided for players, a lot of them regulars. From what casino managers have told me, they don't make much money unless they're packed most of the time. Casinos would rather the new players lose their money at craps or blackjack instead of poker. The return doesn't justify the overhead. Not to mention, that in my few visits to Mohegan and Foxwoods, i got the feeling that those casinos were about everything but the hospitality. I could be wrong, though.
