Getting good value out of Kxs., SendMoney, 24. Aug 2003 13:14 | ||

| I play fairly low limit at Pokerstars, the .50/$1 game and mostly 1 or 2 table $5 Sit n Go tourneys. Lately I've been making a killing at loose passive tables with hands like Kxs, Q9s, J8s. I'll usually limp in with them from most any position if I'm at a table where I can anticipate 4+ limpers in most pots. What I'm really looking for is the flush draw, but I'll usually bet if I hit top pair, kicker be damned. If I get raised with top pair and I don't have a good re-draw I'll usually fold. However the flush draw usually goes something like this. Get a four flush on the flop, bet it, everyone calls, flush made on the turn, check it, someone in late position bets, everyone calls, I call. River brings a blank, I check it, checked to late position who bets it (usually with two pair, top pair, a straight or a smaller flush), I smooth call instead of raising if I think I can get more money from additional callers instead of $1 extra from the better if I check raise. In the end all the money comes to my like a funnel. That said if I miss on the turn I might have to call a bet, miss on the river I save a bet and fold. | ||

| As you step up in limits you will find that your opponents are not sending you the money with these starting hands...they are playable in the right spots, but as a general rule they are a muck! | I would like to see the pros play the real low limits online for a decent amount of time simply to perhaps understand what us low limit guys are saying more often. Not mentioning the Kxs in particular, but most replies are "when ya move up in limits they'll change" which is entirely true, but what about the strategy to use against truly awful players at lower limits? I'd be a pro if definately knew what to do, so would love to hear a pro's take on say the 1/2 shorthanded tables, or any kind of low limit online. | ||

| If you can not beat bad players at 1/2, I highly doubt you will be able to beat pros at 40/80. Beating the fish is really easy. Wait for a good hand and pound it the whole way. Don't slowplay at all. Just keep clicking that raise button. | ||

| I think you would get more money out of the pot if you bet it out on the turn. Although everyone does it at low limits online, betting out on the flop with a flush draw helps to disguise what you have when you hit, so people usually put you on top pair, rather than the flush, so there's a chance the Ace or a 2 pair will raise you on the turn, thus getting 2 bets on the turn. Then you can 3 bet it on the turn, or check raise the river for extra bets. The luck is basically where the raiser is after you, if he is right behind you, then checking, letting him bet have the others call, and then you raise would be the best way to suck out more. If he is last to act, then betting out is the best chance to get 2 bets on the turn. | ||
