In my last post, I was pleased to announce my first multiple tournament NL win. In this post, I will allow you all to have a hearty laugh at my expense.
I qualified for the UB freeroll. The highest tourney I qualified for was to be played today, but last night's 7:30 tourney suited my schedule better and I felt going in as a chip leader would be worthwile. With my confidence riding high I felt I had a good chance of making a solid showing.
I sat pretty tight for the first two rounds then came this sorry excuse for a hand. I was in middle position with 4c5c no limpers in front. The table had been pretty tight so I figured "play like a pro" and make a minimum raise here. The flop was a beautiful 236 rainbow. Giving me the nuts "at the time"(ominous foreshadowing :)

This is when the wheels really started turning; figuring how I could make fortune with this one beautiful miracle hand. I make a minimum bet hoping these fish around me would figure me for weak overcards and give me some action. Two callers, well isn't that nice I thought.
The turn was an ugly 4 giving two to a flush on the board. I decide that I had goofed around long enough and bet the pot. Figuring I would represent AA and maybe a 2 pair from the blinds might give me some action.
Well, action is what I wanted and action is what I got. The small blind moved in on me. WOOHOO, is what I thought and WOOHOO is what I got when the SB turned over the 75 for the NUTS!
I got punked on this hand and I'm coming here to confess my "poker sins" to my peers. Figured you guys would get a kick out this.
Thank goodness it was in a stinking freeroll!
Will

someone once told me (and it took me a while, but it made sense) if you are playing NL & limp in or come in very cheap, then NEVER put in all of your chips. If you think about it it makes a lot of sense.

It is an easy mistake to make, slowplaying the nut straight on a rainbow board. Here's the problem though - all flopped straights are vulnerable. Make a big bet and charge opponents to draw against you - then you can be happy when they draw because they are paying too much.
