A nice tourney payday, JLenart, 23. Aug 2003 05:57

Hey all,

I just wanted to drop a note to thank all of you a bunch for your sharing your poker wisdom. I made a big final table of an online tourney at UB yesterday.

It was a 10+1 NLHE game. For most of the tourney I played fairly tight but made some good calls on bluffs and what not. I stayed just above the average chip count for most of the tourney but when it was getting down to the bubble (20 paid out and there were 24 left) I was short stacked. I waited out a number of hands passing marginal holdings in hoping a big hand would come along or some one else would bust out moving me closer to the money. Sure enough both happened. I hit AA and KK two hands in a row doubling me up each time. Now with room to breathe I could play a bit more freely. Before long not only was I in the money but I had made the final table. Not long after that I was the big stack. With about T50000 in chips I was up about 10K on the next closest with 3 of us left in the game. I played one hand poorly calling along with a low PP thinking my opponent was on a draw. I lost .Oh well I still had T40K making the table about even. Number 3 busted out a few hands later and it was down to two. I had 60K My opponent about 80K. A few hands into it I'm in the SB and I get 99. I raise it up 4 times the BB (4K at this point) and get called. Flop comes 9 10 4 rainbow. A SET YES! My opponent bets out 20K I come over the top all in He calls. The cards flip over and he hes, you guessed it, pocket 10's...UG. Oh well I didnt win but second was sure nice.

I know my final hand play might garner much critisism but heck it was a lot of fun and I still won a good pay day.

Thanks again to all of you. Playing good solid poker and not suffereing those aweful beats sure feels good.

John

What's to critique? You made good decisions with that final hand, just got bad results. It's always very satisfying to finish as high as you did when you were in trouble at bubble time.
