| I've just moved into the city that never sleeps and i find it hard to believe that i cant find a single place to play here. anyone know of anywhere in the city? im in the village, but anywhere in manhattan is cool. please let me know... thanx | ||

| Hi, There are no"legal" cardrooms in the city. There are a few places, but they are (private, illegal) and you're going to have to know of someone who plays there......then you'll be able to go there as well, (providing you aren't a professional poker player...they really frown upon that if they suspect it to be true.) Obviously because these clubs are illegal, they have the right to refuse anyone). You can always take a ride to Atlantic City which will be about a 2- 2 1/2 hour ride, or to Foxwoods in Connecticut with approx. the same travel time. Any other casino would be too far to travel to: (Turning Stone in NY State, which isn't that good anyway). Sorry I couldn't be of more help, but basically those are your options. 4 POKER | ||

| There's a bus leaving from Chinatown that pays YOU to go to Atlantic City! It leaves every hour and you pay 20 bucks and get 25 back. Although that deal changes every time I go. In fact... I got to run. That's where I'm spending my weekend! Good luck. And if you find a game in NYC let me know. I'm in Queens. :) beigs on 22. | Since youse guys are just across the river from one another why dont y'all get together with some friends and start your own? (Originally from Long Island, Live in Savannah GA so I can use "Youse guys" and "Y'all" in the same sentence) I remember when I did live in NY there were classified adds in the papers from people looking for games. Worth a look. Or better yet take one out yourself. Post on the rec.gambling.poker newsgroup also. | ||

| i have recently departed NYC but I did play in the "illegal games" quite frequently. I would suggest that you make the trip to AC on a weekend and ask around at your table about games in the city and I bet you can find someone that will give you some info. I would help you more but the place I most frequently played at was shut down when I left and I don't know if it has reopened in another venue. Good luck. | ||

| That's a good point you brought up Piers. I bet if he went to AC he would be able to find some people who would be interested in starting a home game, or perhaps, if he asked around a little when he was there, they may even invite him to a home game that is already established. I knew a few guys who lived in NYC......played in their weekly home game, but still traveled to AC on occasion. 4P- | ||

| At one time there were two card rooms in Lower Manhattan but then mayor Guilliani closed them because they were illegal. Every one knew about them but he had to look good for a purpose. | ||
