Had a bad poker night tonight. I had good cards on the flop and played semi aggressive like always, but it seemed that somebody was always flopping a set and slow playing me so that I couldn't read that they had.? How do I guard against this? Or is this bad night just to be expected. I usually win about 3 BBs an hour.

Hi John

Sometimes all you can do is all you can do and the situation just destined you to lose some chips....That said, with some players (not all) when they slowplay a hand you can put them on a big hand and get away from (fold) your hand....In order to make this play yon need to have watched your opponent and make sure he is not the texture of player that makes a lot of moves!

Always be paranoid about the player who calls every bet and doesn't raise but just keeps on chugging to the river. If they call a flop bet you might try raising on the turn to feel them out. If they call that also then be very carefull unless you have the nut.

Hey John,
Slowplays can be devastating. I almost flipped my lid the other night when I was dealt K-K. I raised pre-flop, but there was no re-raise, 5 callers. Flop came 2-4-2. I knew at this table anything was possible, but I was in MP so I figured a bet would drive most away. 2 callers, no raise. Turn was a 9. That left a flush draw on the board, but I think I'm still leading so I bet out. Both people call. 1st position chases everything and LP is a decent player. River comes up 10 for a board of
2-4-2-9-10 (no flush). I think I'm good so I bet, LP folds and EP raises. I think about it and have to call. He flips over J-2 offsuit. I honestly don't know how to combat that. I guess I could have checked the turn to see if he would bet, but then I would have figured I was costing myself a bet. It took me a minute, but I looked at the positive side and realized that this guy is playing J-2 off. I will make money off of him in the long run. Good luck out there.

A little more than too accept it as inevitable. Players have read you as someone that will come out betting if u think u have the best Hand. If people are calling you it generally means they have a little something something. And if they are gonna raise you it will be for the river, because why not? It is even likely they may not have that much better a hand then you do, but because they have placed a read on you they will let you be the aggressor, because a raise would do nothing but put a red light in your head, and why would they want that?
