Hi,

I play online mostly at Party and mostly the 1/2 and 2/4 tables right now. Been playing for 3 months.

I read a lot of you mentioning the "sit and go".

What is the sit and go?
Are there advantages to playing one?
Why do you like them?
Suggestions for getting started in a sit and go:

By the way, this site is fantastic!! I am learning so much here. Thank you all for giving of your ideas and time here.

Thanks,

Kyle

The "sit and go" (SNG) at Party are the single table tournaments.

That's all there is to it.

UB.com is too advanced to use a literal term that might make sense to a newbie.

I greatly prefer the SNG's for the competition and value. Your losses and winnings are fixed so you can't get suckered into repeated buy ins. You all start with even chips and the progressive blinds insure that everyone has to play a little more loose. To me it is more of a pure poker competition and less of a grind.

The $5/1 SNG's cost 20% and the $10/1 only costs 10% so start with the fives and move up to the tens as soon as you place in a few. The payout is 50%,30%,20%. A typical game lasts about 30-45 minutes if you place. It's hard to play a 1/2 game for that little money.

>>What is the sit and go?
Single table tournament. They don't start at any fixed time, just when the 9 or 10 person table fills up. They're also generally characterized by fast rising blinds, usuaully every ten hands. They're usually over within an hour.

>>Are there advantages to playing one?
Oh yeah. The players generally are terrible. Bad players make far more mistakes in a NLHE tounrey than they do in a cash game. They overbet the pot, like going all-in to win $15 in blinds. They underbet the pot, throwing $20 at a $500 pot. But mostly they WAY overplay their hands. People shouldn't be calling all-in bets with 2nd pair on the first round, but they do. Regularly.

>>Why do you like them?
It's pretty easy to position yourself to get in the money. Just wait for all the crazies to bust each other out and don't play many hands at all in the first few rounds. Seriously, you can post & fold the first 3 rounds at Paradise and be one of 5 left standing. Now you're just two from the money.

>>Suggestions for getting started in a sit and go:
Start with the low buyins if you're inexperienced at NLHE. Play SUPER tight in the early rounds. Usually only play Group 1 or from the button or the blinds. Real game doesn't start until blinds are 50/100. Then do a 180 and get real aggressive.
