| I am a winning beginning poker player who likes to study the game a lot. I currently own: Lee Jones' low limit book Sklansky's Hold 'em for Advanced players. Mike Caro's Book of Tells Ken Warren Teaches Texas Hold 'em Brunson's Super System. What to read next? If I am beginning to master the techniques in Sklansky's Advnaced book, is buying the other Sklansky Hold 'em book worth it at all? I want to read Sklansky's 7 Card Stud books because I feel that I'm still very weak at that game, but I can't find it at any bookstores in the area (SW Ohio Metro). What is the next book that you recommend I devour? I was thinking about Hellmuth's book because I like his aggressive style and the book is cheap. I was disappointed in the Super System because it spends so much time on games I will never play (lowball etc.) Would Sklansky's "Theory of Poker" be a good purchase? I find that I like his "technical" style. | ||

| theory of poker is great, especially if you like sklansky's style. i just got done reading the hold 'em sections of hellmuth's books and was severely underwhelmed. it might be worth it if you already know the basics and just want a taste of how he thinks. his categories to put players into are interesting. but his ram and jam style with little concept of position/odds would be a disaster for a beginner. personally, i love all of bob ciaffone's books. they are actually the ones i go back to the most it seems: pot-limit & no-limit poker improve your poker middle limit hold 'em poker good luck! | ||

| Hi I think you are on the right track to becoming a good player....Sounds like you have the right attitude! I would recomend "The Theory of Poker"...It is the best book on poker! I would also recommend you read "The Play of Hands" by myself. Both should be available at www.conjelco.com Good Luck :-) Roy Cooke on 20. | Roy's Play of Hands and Ciaffone's Middle LImit Hold'em have improved my game tremendously (probably the single biggest jump in my abilities). Once you have the basics down (odds, outs, theory, etc) these two books are must reads. They paid for themselves twice over my first session after reading them. Between the two of them, i learned how to think at the table, no other books i've read come close to this. Also, if you can read opponents with a fair degree of accuracy, all of the theories will fall into place and will really make sense. You will know exactly what cards to play and how to play them, becasue you will also "know" what cards you're playing against. Mark | ||

| I would highly suggest the theory of poker as your next book, especially if you like Sklansky. The book is just outstanding, and you will be glad that you read (and reread!) it. After that, I really liked Ciaffone and Brier's Middle Limit Hold'em. It contains hundreds of hand situations and the thought processes that come into play. It helped my game out a lot, I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't read it. Lee | ||

| Hi.I agreethat TOP by Sklansky is Mandatory. Malmuth's Gambling Theory and Other Topics is also excellent, even though it does mention thinks you do not play. Roy'sHand Play Book is good, as is the Ciaffone and Briar book (which I helped on). The latter is a bit conservative inthe view of most pros. Beware of the Hellmuth book. It advocates a playing style that will get a lot of players into trouble. Especially if you are going to play limit poker. BarryT | ||
