| Do you feel that 80-90% of your opponents are decent players? Some of the things you listed as 'your edge' don't matter if you're playing trash opponents. Right? I really feel that there are some good poker players in here, myself notwithstanding, that have the brain power and overall game to use more advanced plays, but they just plain don't work because "our" opponents are not tuned in enough to the game to know when they're being played. To beat suckers, you have to know how suckers play. Most of us are getting a lot of experience in this realm. To beat good players, you have to know how good players play, but most of us haven't played those opponents yet in a consistent game. How do YOU see the evolution from playing bad opponents to playing good opponents........when the object of the game is to win money, which for most of us means playing bad players. Is it just a matter of sucking it up and taking a beating every now and then as you learn what a real poker game looks like? | ||

| Hi Risky You ask some good questions...My answers are beneath the questions. on 19. Right? Roy Says: Yes, most of my opponents do have reasonable play knowledge...That said, I think the issues I mentioned STILL have a large effect...... Strategy knowledge includes learning how to play different textures of games well....Compedative skills are STILL very important in live games! > > I really feel that there are some good poker players in here, myself > notwithstanding, that have the brain power and overall game to use more advanced > plays, but they just plain don't work because "our" opponents are not tuned in > enough to the game to know when they're being played. Roy Says: Advanced plays still work against bad players...They are just different advanced plays than those used when playing tough opposition....You need to adjust your style of play based on your opponents, much as a golfer will adjust his strategy based on the golf course he is playing! > > To beat suckers, you have to know how suckers play. Roy Says: Boy, I could write a book on that one.....Against bad players solid play generally gets the money.....You need to learn some concepts and plays, but good hand selection and solid betting strategies will beat the game...... When you get into games in which the hand selection strategies are about equal...you need to "outplay" your opponents by having better reads and play knowledge. > > Is it just a matter of sucking it up and taking a beating every now and then as > you learn what a real poker game looks like? Roy Says: Sucking it up is an important issue....That said, there are many more issues. Pot odds, reading players, making laydowns ect. All edges add up over time....the more edges you have over your opponents the greater your hourly expectation is going to be. I hope that helps :-) Roy Cooke | ||
