Can Anyone explain this to me?, foraces, 18. Aug 2003 20:30

It seems like I spend all week building my bankroll on the online sites, and then proceed to lose most of it back on the weekends.

I play mostly $5,10, or 20NL sitngos on Stars and 1/2 or 2/4 draw on Planet. I feel like I play solid poker, and I do well, M-F but I suck on days that begin with an 'S'. I had so many bubble finishes the last few weekends, it is just insane.

Is the competition tougher on weekends, I would think it would be the other way around. But I don't assume that the competition is weaker and play them as being so. And I don't feel like I'm taking more bad beats from poor players.

I keep notes on players as I go and play them accordingly.

does anyone else have similar problems?

By the way..I don't drink or do drugs when I play on weekends (or at all) so that is not the problem

Hi Foraces

Back when I played for a living, I found the exact opposite to be true.....I played 5 days a week (When my girlfriend (Currently wife) worked as a cocktail waitress)......I made 61% of my money on Friday and Saturday and 39% of my money on weekdays......It was part of the reason I went into business , feeling I could still make 60% of my earn and never go in on a weekday!

That is so wild that you made that observation. I play on Party and from Monday through Wendesday I win, Thursday's it's mixed, Friday and Saturday I take a bath and Sunday is mixed.

I thought it was just a coincidence, but i noticed this about a month ago and it is too consistent for me to ignore. I am seriously considering only playing M-W. This only has been happening online as I do fine on any day of the week in a B&M.

I am playing mostly low limits so there is usually a wide skill set on any given table on any given night. But, it seems that I don't see as many loose-aggressives, mainiacs or weak players during the week (though they are there).

I consider myself a typical tight-aggresive intermidiate player. I think I run into big trouble when there are a couple or loose-aggressives, a couple of weaks, and one or two tight -aggressives filled out with a few more loose players. This is especially true when I can't isolate the bad players. In these tables, I tighten up but it seems that when ever I have a premium hand, it is either cracked by one of the loose guys or another tight-aggressive is in and i have to fold if he represents a better hand. And when the loose guys do start trending downwards the pots are to protected and multiway to get my share of his bankroll.

So it seems that one of my problems is table selection. I always just enter the first table that becomes available, but this could be the cause of my fluctuations.

Does anyone have advise as to what I should look for when considering table choice and seat choice for a halfway decent tight-agressive?

Hey FM,

The best approach for winning poker is to be "selectively" aggresive. However.......*understanding* why you are being aggresive will contribute to the amount of experience you have in poker and the amount of skills/edges that you bring to the table.

Knowing when to bet, call, fold, raise, reraise, etc. are all a part of being aware of the texture of the game, pot odds/implied odds, and having strong reading abilities over your opponents.

Being a tight- aggresive player is *fine*........ if you know how to play your hands correctly and are not being outplayed by a more solid-aggresive/"seasoned" opponent; and if you have enough experience and "player knowledge", you'll be less apt to get outplayed by a maniac type as well because your own reads and "feel" for the game will be that much more on track.

Until you get alot more experience and feel totally comfortable in any game you play in........your best bet will be to play in games that are more passive where you might be able to have better control over the field.

Keep in mind, you always want to play against players that are weaker than yourself......and that also refers to having many more skills, and applying those skills against any one particular opponent. You don't need to avoid any one game because a solid/experienced player is sitting there......but if that player has alot more "edges" than you do, you're going to be outplayed many of the times he's in the hand with you unless you flop extremely well. You may want to try and adjust your post-flop play (not necessarily your starting hands) according to who's in the pot with you.

.......But with all of that, it takes experience, great reading skills and ability.

Hope that helps:)
