Played in a home NL tournament this weekend. Had a total of 16 players with at least half of them with some GOOD experience. Five of us are regular UBers. My wife sat in to have some fun as well as another guy's wife who had played at my tournament a month ago. Even had a 3rd girl, but she was a shark. She could talk the talk and was telling stories of playing at the local casino.

Well I tried playing tight and was doing okay. But the format we were using was forcing the blinds up pretty quick so that we could be done in 4 hours. We started out with T1000 and blinds at 10/20. A good two hours into it I am at 600 with the big blind at 100. The board is rags so I try and make a steal at it betting 200. Guy to my left immediately calls all-in. I have no choice but to fold. Later he told me he had two pair. From that point on I was very short and vowed to wait for good cards, go all-in, and hope for the best. Finally in the big blind I post 150 and get ATo. When it gets around to me I call all in with the remaining 250. Get one caller. He flips of Jx. Flop comes xxT. Yes! Then the turn comes a J. Shit! Right when I think I am dead to 5 outs the dealer mentions that there are 3 hearts on the board and if a 4th hits that I will have a flush. And sure 'nuff... it hit. Whew. I'm alive but just a bit longer.

About that time my wife comes over after busting out and sits on my lap. From then on my cards improved. By the time we needed to consolidate to one table I had over T2000. Then on the new table I just sit back and fold a lot, grabbing the occassional small pot. Before I realize it we are down to 4 people and I am in the money. I keep playing conservative. Probably a bit too conservative for this short handed. My half toasted wife is getting pissy sitting on my lap because I am folding all my hands. She wants me to throw all my chips in the middle. But I play tight with a couple position plays on the blinds. Finally down to 3 people. Mrs. TK keeps telling me to pay to see the flop or go all in. As by now it is getting very late and my mom is watching the girls I decide to let her do what she wants. I get dealt 75s and she tells me to go all-in. I do it thinking that I have a chance to steal the blinds or go home. I have already won back both of our buy-ins. I get a caller that throws up two big overcards. Great. But then the flop hits a 7 and the river an unneeded 5. Now we are heads up. We play back and forth for awhile with him probably taking some of my chips. Then I get A4o. The flop comes 224. I figure I have a good lead and go all-in. I get called by AJo. Seeing his Ace makes me feel good. Now I just have to wait out two cards to see if he catches one of his Jacks. Ace. Rag. And I take home first place and nice designer wristwatch (made in Thailand $9) as the "braclet".

It was nice to win, but felt empty seeing how I snagged that flush on the river when I was about blinded out and then won that 75s hand.

But it wasn't about the destination but the journey.

If you made it this far, thanks for listening to a pointless story. :-)

Great story. Enjoyed how you painted the picture. We should have a story telling section.

Problem #1:
> About that time my wife comes over after busting out and sits on my lap. From then on my cards improved.
I think you'll have a problem in the future in other places- most card rooms have a "one behind per chair" rule. Hope it won't affect your confidence, playing without your lucky lapsitter

Problem #2
>My half toasted wife is getting pissy sitting on my lap
> because I am folding all my hands. She wants me to throw all my chips in the middle. ... I decide to let her do what she wants. I get dealt 75s and she tells me to go all-in. I do it thinking that I have a chance to steal the blinds or go home.

And now you've "proven" to her that she knows how to play and you don't, so she's gonna be kibitzing ALL of your tourneys from now on. You've created a monster, Dr FranKarrdstein- I hope you can deal with the resulting rampage (not to mention the angry mobs)...
