Just got back from Atlantic City.. A freaking 5 hour 300 mile drive took us 9 hours because of all the traffic!!!! At least I got a cardplayer magazine for free through from the Trop, I think I read it through like 10 times on the drive home to Virginia.

I stayed at the Irish Pub Inn, well actually I did not even stay there becuase I played poker all night. My friends got the two beds, and I basically paid for nothing. Thanks to everyone that gave me advice/tips on where to stay and where to play in AC.

I played the $2/$4 at the Taj and Tropicana. I have to say it is one of the worst games I have ever played in my life. I came out even which is good because I was down to $20 at one point, and decided that I should just call all the way to the river and busted someones AK with a Q3 offsuit (Got a Queen on the flop, and a Queen on the river).

I threw out all my strategy playing 2/4. If I raised pre-flop, I think 8 people would call. If I raised on the flop, 7 people would call. And if I raised on the turn, 6 would call and 4 would call a raise on the river. VERY FRUSTRATING! I was playing at the Trop Sun morning, and this guy would never look at his hole cards until the river. He would try to cap the bets as much as he could, and then look at his cards and either fold or bet on the river. As weird as it sounds, he had the biggest stack at the table when I arrived.

I do not have specific hands that I remember, maybe because I am still delirious from staying up all night and driving home. But, the next time I go will to either play in the tournaments or the $5/$10 game. The 2/4 is a JOKE! Thanks everyone for the help on my trip!

Mike

Glad you had a good time. You did have a good time, didn't you? hmmm. (LOL)!

I guess the folks didn't want to bore you with such a "no action game", (being that you did travel quite a way to get there)......so they decided to play no fold em hold em instead!

Roy and 4 Poker, what strategy would you use against a player who was playing blind until the river and being very aggressive as well?

tighten up and also be more aggressive? try to get heads up?

While I am neither 4P nor Roy I'd say that you'd play the same way you'd play against any maniac: Tighten up, and when you DO have a hand, make him pay. Getting him heads up should usually happen if you're both raising like crazy but even if it's not heads up, you should still have the best of it cause you've tightened up (which is not to say you should ignore the fact that there are 3-4 as opposed to 2 in the hand).

I would think that this guy had such a huge stack because of 2 reasons:
1) he got lucky
2) he put other people off their game, so they were calling and raising a little looser than they normally would have

In the long run I would expect his stack to dwindle to nothing.

Ok, let's all agree that hyper-aggressive players tend to be noticed. They should not be hated, but adapted to. Keep in mind that one of the most endearing characteristics of the hyper-aggressive player is the habit of moving money from his stack into the common area in the middle of the table. Get ready for wider stack swings and more folding, but the money is there in the pot, ... take it when your cards permit you to. If the hyper-aggressive bettor gets lucky and builds up a monster stack, concentrate on ensuring you have the second biggest stack at the table.

At my B&M, I have the same type of guy. I love it when he pops onto my table. If I'm correct, the average random starting hand is Q-6. Obviously we have no idea what the maniac has, but I use this as my guide. If I have Ace - anything I will raise him because I know he will cap and usually there is only one other caller. I obviously pay close attention to the other callers. The maniac will bet no matter what flops so if I have him I will reraise in hopes of isolating after the flop. If someone else is sticking around then I will play the hand tighter depending on my holding. I realize this is way loose, but when you have someone not looking, pound him into the ground. I know you will get the occasional beat, but he will give it back. I think the big key is to still play solid hands, but depending upon position, I will play many hands against him.

Let me know if I'm way out of line here, and if the Q-6 is the correct avergae random starting hand. Good luck, DJpoker

Try the $5-10 at the Taj on a Saturday Night. Perfect mix of good players and morons. Usually very profitable. Good game for solid non-pros who get frustrated getting sucked out in no foldem games but don't want to play against pros (the $10-20 seems to be the first level with lots of pros in the game). I get housed on $10-20 but do very well at $5-10, I would presume for that reason.

At $5-10 you can play okay with $250 bankroll, whereas you obviously need much more at double the blinds.

Just my opinion from an avid casual player. Also, I have played $3-6 at the Trop and it is far less crazy than the $2-4.

The 2-4 at the Trop(and probably most casinos) is total garbage! I guess if you play flop the nutz/close to nutz or fold you'd probably do pretty well, but how lame.

the 4-8 is a pretty good game with a nice mix of fish and regulars. With the fish being worse players than anything I saw in 9 months of playing daily in Vegas. I just got back from a 4day trip there and every night it seemed like 2 or 3 drunks would be pulling out c note after c note and giving it away. Amazing!

I really hope this is WPT/WSOP on tv related and not just me being in the right place at the right time.

Any chance the Bellagio or Orleans low-limit's are like this now??
