| I just started playing and have a question. I was playing the NL $25 table. I held 7h and 8h and called the .50c bet. There were probably about 4-5 people in the hand at this point. The flop was jh 5h 6h I went ahead and did what I would think was a small to mid-size bet of $3. The turn was 5c. I checked and river was Tc and I folded. The winner had 2 pair jacks and 5. How should I of bet if at all after the flop? Thanks for all replies! | ||

| Hey Brian, When you limped in with the 8-7 of hearts , what flop were you looking to hit here? You flopped the flush (with also a re-draw to a straight flush, but that's besides the pont since no other hearts came up), and you made a bet on the flop and got called. Now......when the turn card brought the second 5, was there a bet made by someone or was it just checked around? From your post, it sounds like it was just checked around, correct? If there was a bet on the turn and you called....then you should have called the river bet as well, ....being that no other flush card came out and the board didn't bring another matched pair either. But I'm not sure if there was a bet on the turn or not, and you didn't mention how many players were still left in the hand after you made the $3 bet on the flop. How many callers did you receive on the flop.......one, two, more than that?...........All that matters when you chose to continue with a call, a bet, or a fold. But at that point you have to make a decision on what hands you can reasonably put your opponent on and make your decision based on that and of the strength of your own holding. Now.......if you *were* heads up..........The 10 that came on the river was not going to hurt your flush unless the player flopped a set or a higher flush to begin with. (He could have held pocket tens, but it's more likely that he did not). If you gave him a set or a higher flush on the flop, than your fold was correct. Otherwise you most likely folded the winner as your opponent could have very well put you on a 4-flush or just one pair (Jacks perhaps),because once you showed weakness on the turn.......he took that as a sign that his top pair (maybe better kicker) was good. Another question: What amount did he bet on the river......small bet, medium bet, big bet? Did he bet and get overcallers, or were you just heads up at that point? You mentioned that he showed his hand after you folded, but was he called on the river, or did he just chose to show his cards? I'm just curious if there were overcallers on the river that lead you to believe that your own hand was not the best out there. But I still think the real question is: What holding did you give your opponent/s that lead you to fold your flush? I'm not saying you were wrong (or right) for folding your flush.......but you have to know why you are betting and why you are folding during the course of a hand, and make the most sound-minded decisions you can possibly make.....and you also must be able to put your opponents on the possible holdings that they could have once the flop comes up and then take your best course of action with all the information that is provided to you. If your bet on the flop was to get information, but then felt that your flush was not good enough being that there were several callers in here now.......than you made the right choice in folding........if those were your reasons for folding, and your reasons for betting. 4 POKER | ||
