| Roy I was just thinking, you were a winning pro for a few years and then decided to get into real estate not for money reasons, so then why did you? Obviuosly this is personal, and you may choose not to answer this for any reason. The reason i ask is, you had what so many of us (others on this site) dream of. Mark | ||

| Hi Mark At that time, I had played poker for 16 years.....I was getting married and planning to have children....... I did not want to put myself in a position in life in which poker was my only way in which to make a living....I wanted more security in life for my family......I got into Real Estate with the intent of still playing a lot of poker...... My Real Estate business grew MUCH more than I ever anticipated and the economic gain is significantly better than poker...... At some point in my life I will start playing more poker again. Playing poker is a tough demanding life in which you must stay consistently focused....I am glad I pursued other endeavors (I still play 600-800 hours a year), but I still enjoy poker. | Thanks Roy I might be in a position in a few years where i can take a shot at making poker a large part of my income and was wondering why you got another job. I know i still have alot of learning and playing to do until i can make it, but i may have financial support that will make it possible. Mark | ||

| Hi Mark I think poker is great thing for a stable person that is not 100% relying on it! It has been very good to me. I wish you luck :-) Roy Cooke on 15. | You know what they say, Mark. Poker is a great second job and a horrible first job. That's my philosophy with it at least. The only way I would play as a primary occupation is if I was retired and had enough money to live on that I didn't need to worry about it. | ||

| yeah, i've heard all that before. The situation i may be in is, My wife is going back to school for pediatric medicine. And things will be tough while shes in school. She is promising me that if we can get through it together, that when she's done school and working (making good money) that i can do what ever i want for a while. I also have a small software business that is starting to take off but will not have a very long life span as it is, (3-5 years max). So with these things all happening around the same time, i might be in a great situation to play semi pro or take 6 months to a year off and try poker full time. mark | ||

| I think it is easier to do if you are an entrepreneur, simply because you won't need to rely on your resume if you quit poker ... just go back into business. | ||
