| Hi Slip I have never read any material which I thought was very good as far as playing the blinds.....I think you need an understanding of poker concepts and adapt them to blind situations...... What hands to play is HUGELY dependent on your opponents! Whether to three bet out of the little blind is dependent on the texture of your hand, the raiser AND the big blind. I could write a book on this issue alone! There is that much to know. I would read David Sklansky's Poker Theory book and then Read my "Play of Hands" book (Both are available through www.conjelco.com)......I think the combination of those two books will help you learn to play poker situations at a professional level! | As Roy said, playing in the blinds has a huge amount of nuance. If you want an easy answer though, play about the same hands in the small blind that you would play on the button. You're all the way out of position, but you're compensated by the half-priceness of it. On the BB, the general rule is that you shouldn't raise unless you have a very good reason (3-betting to fold off limpers, raising AA or KK for value, raising suited connectors into a gigantic field for value and deception, etc). When to defend your BB is a big topic and it really depends on who raised. If you're holding AJ in the BB and the raiser is a total rock, just throw it away. If you're holding AJ in the BB and the raiser is a maniac, you might actually 3-bet him for an isolation attempt (probably not though) ... or if you're holding AJ in the BB and the raiser is just a standard bad player, you'll probably call and see if you hit the flop. | ||
