Just want to say thank for the nice thread about maths and poker which included complimentary refs to my weird articles on pokerpages.com.

I wasn't the one who made the references, but you write some great articles Paul. They helped my game out for sure. Keep up the good work!

I am the guilty party for bringing your EXCELLENT articles (as references ...) to the forum on a regular basis, whereas you are only guilty of writing superbe and cutting edge articles (IMHO) linking the necessary math to the inevitable fall of the cards. Welcome to UPF and I hope you can be tempted to contribute!

i have read your article entitled " Small rebuy comps " amd find nothing weird about it. Poker strategy and statistics are shifting daily. The evolution of poker from a game for rounders and retirees has shifted into the mainstream. Some of these changes are just beginning to become apparent. Sklanskys top tier hands are different from Hellmuths which are different from the findings of Mummert in another poker pages article which are differemt from Paul Samuels.
The huge increase in participation has created a fluid texture in most games with the exception of the incestual games played at the Bellagio and Horseshoe. In my not so humble opinion.

Welcome to our UK posters. A question for you-- The TV show "Late night Poker"--what is their share of the viewers and--is it live?

Yeah, Late night poker is a really good little programme. It takes the form of a 8-10 handed table playing a NL tourny each player puts up about £1500-2000 ( depending on the series there have been 6 or 7 i think - not sure though could be more ). Winner goes to the final loser goes through to the runner up final ( where the winner of that plays in the final).

It is an hour long prgramme ( highlights) and you have had some good players playing in it some of the better ones include Phil Helmuth. Barny Boatman, Dave Colclough , Noel Furlong , Ken Leonard, Daniel Negreanu, Surinder Sunar, Teddy Tuil, Dave Devilfish Ulliott, Ram Vaswani.

It is, as the title suggests, shown at about 11.30pm on one of thesmaller channels in the UK but quickly it obtained ' cult ' status, it is now shown every night ( repeats as far as i know there have only been about 60 - 70 episodes maybe less ) on Cable TV.

It features under the table cameras and shown most of the hands that people play, including the ones they fold and they have Jessie May commentating in his own unique style ( my friends still all mimic his enthusiastic tones ) and various ' guest commentators '. It does give all the basics of how to play every episode ( the explanation of the button is doen best by Barney Boatman and still cracks me up when he goes over this basic point for the tenth time ).

I suggest it was reponsable for the mini explosion in Poker in the UK, i know it was the thing that got me interested in this great game.

Er i think thats it really
Cheers

Thanks, Chase--LNP also provided the main ingredient that made WPT so popular-namely the under the table camera. Some 80% of the viewers said that was their favorite feature. i believe that TV poker is beginning to trigger a Maxi explosion in poker here in the States
