Extremely Loose @ Borgata, Pierre Bowery, 13. Aug 2003 19:58

Hello everyone,
This is only my first time starting a discussion on here and due to the wealth of information I have gotten by just reading others' posts, I figure I can get some specific info too. I'll start by saying I usually play limits from 5-10 to 15-30 @ B & M casinos on east coast. Been fairly succesful after two years of playing. From the Washington DC area, shoot up to AC two three times a month. Question is basically about the last time I played. I didn't have too much cash so I figured I'd try to make some money at the 6-12 at the Borgata while waiting for a seat at the 10-20. Before I sat , I realized that the game was VERY loose, and figured I could make a couple bucks. The problem is that the game was so loose it was terribly hard to ever tell what anyone was playing. I'm not gonna bore you with the many bad beats but here is a few examples:

- raise in EP, reraise MP, SB and BB both call and show down J7s and 75s

- pots with 7-8 people outnumber pots with 2-3 people.

- Late position raise is never respected and always called by everyone as if out of spite, lol

Well, just looking to find ways to beat this kind of game, because its said everywhere that these games are easiest to make money but ........HOW?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Pierre - Here is how I would approach this type of game - it depends on what you can afford to lose.
If you would normally risk $200 or $300 in a "normal" 3/6 game, then be ready to risk $600 - $800 in the type game you related . Luck is the overriding factor here.
Card selection is a little different in the game, and may help some, but, still, bring along your rabbit's foot. (: ) BEE JAY

Hey Pierre,
I don't have too much 6-12 experience, but at 4-8, 3-6 these types of games require great patience. Only play starting hands that are suggested in the many books and really, really focus on position. If I have a great hand I don't mind capping pre-flop, but you have to muck when you don't hit. IMHO, most people lose their money by chasing in these kind of games. I don't mind paying 4 bets fo AK, but if 8-5-2 flops and people are raising, you got to lay it down.

Good luck, DJpoker.

If you're a solid poker player; one who makes good decisions at all times......plays strong starting hands.......mix up the *way* you play your hands on the flop.........and you have the "abilty" to know when to minimize your losses and capitalize on your winning hands.....and you don't compromize your standards of good/winning poker to suit their's, then you will be able to profit better from a loose game over the course of time.

Now that doesn't mean that you will be able to beat it "every" time because that's impossible........but whenever you play in games where you are much better than your opponents and you are truly skilled with alot of experience, you will run circles around a game like that. Sure, your swings will be a little bit more than if you were playing in games where everyone was at the same caliber of play, all being pretty solid for the most part and where noone really "got out of line"........but your earn for those types of games will not be as high either. If you play really well and have good discipline, than you'll beat the loose games in the long run.
