When you FIRST sit down.., Robbins, 13. Aug 2003 16:57

At a B&M for Hold-Em,
you first sit down to the table, what do you want to do from there?

I assume you unrack your chips and stack them up.

I assume that you tell the dealer that you will post when the puck is 1 to your right and that you get ready to throw in your blind and watch the table etc.

Are these correct and anything else?

Sounds good to me. You should probably perform any voodoo bad beat rituals before sitting down too. Actually, those are best done in the parking lot as few cardrooms like chicken blood on their carpets and when you're about to shower crazy draws on your table it is best for them to just think you are dumb and lucky :)

I've always wanted to play the very first hand by raising and reraising without ever even picking up my cards, just to see how others would react. Maybe when I've got checks to burn...
I heard somewhere that Amarillo Slim made a bet that he couldn't go all-in and bust on the 1st NL hand in 5 straight tourneys (or consecutive, but different games). As it turns out (if memory serves) he went bust on the first hand in 4 straight before winning that first hand the 5th time he pulled the stunt.
All kidding aside, your table image will largely be made up of how others initially perceive you...just something to think about.

I look for players I've been up against before and try to remember their style. Then I make notes on whos drunk, then I try to single out the players that just happen to look stupid in general. After this checklist I'm usually feeling pretty good about my odds.

I haven't done much with chicken blood, YET!

The most important thing it to follow the game and not be pre-occupied with stacking chips etc, sometimes when you get there there will be a deal and if you come in players will be waiting for you.

I hate those people who say they will play the hand, then everyone waits while they sit and un-pack before even looking at the cards.

I will usually post BB right away since I came to play.

Robbins,
You need to get to the casino already LOL. When you first sit down you can wait for the button to pass. This may be 1 hand or it may be 8. You never have to post a BB or a SB before seeing some free hands. Most people will wait. For me it usually depends on who is in the game. If I like the table, I might hop in the blind, but you probably won't know if it is your first trip.
Just remember to play a good hand first. By that I mean a premium starting hand. I always want to win my first hand I take to the river (I know we all do), so I highly encourage you to play big cards on your first hand and really pay attention to position. Good luck, DJpoker.
