I'm not in this hand, but I think it illustrates how dangerous AK can be.

I will be honest i might well have played it similar to how he played it ( unless the guy with 9's had not played a hand for an hour) With that flop i would have probably been willing to commit my chips. Some hands you just are going to loase chips with for me this is probably one of them ! Of course i could just be too loose...

Yeah, I appreciate what you are saying, but for the record, in case anyone goes up against him, UNCLEGAMBS is a solid player.

I think the point I'm making is, that I would need trips or better, before I am going to commit a lot of money, in a ring game like this. In a tourney of course it may be a different matter.

but then again I may be too tight/timid?

Lots of good hands get beaten by sets. That's a tough hand to play, but it's hard to lay it down when you flop top two pair, there's no flush draw, and the only possible straight draw is a gutshot.

Without knowing the player, I would have to put my opponent on two pair or a set. I'm not sure what I would do there, but other than A,A or K,K, any pre-flop hand is going to be in bad shape on that flop...

AK is more vulnerable than most players think. Time and again i see players go all-in in rounds 1 or 2 with AK and get handed their lunch.
Another example---last night in 4 hours i had AK six times.
My best result-- a tie with another AK
my worst result--allin vs A5 and A9-- a 9 hit the board
i varied my play -- sometimes flat call , sometimes small raise, sometimes call a small raise and one time go all in. You just never know.

Just spent 3 days in AC and went 1 for 10 with AK. and the win was a pure bluff. I don't play any no-limit, but I'd have a real hard time getting away from that flop in a structured game.
