You gotta tighten up so that you are only betting at them when you really got the goods. This way you reduce the chances of them drawing out on you; but they will always pay you off when you do have it.

This is one of the best kind of games to play in imo, especially if by "Calling Stations" you mean that the players are passive and rarely make agressive moves. I think you can actually play more hands in this kind of game because your implied odds go up. After all, everything but high pocket pairs are drawing hands to begin with. If you hit your hand you know you will likely be paid off well. If you miss take free cards if checked to and fold if bet into. Suited connectors become more valuable. Also, your premium hands become worth more. Value bets on the river are tricky and you must be careful about river cards that can hit obsure hands, but generally I think you can get away with more value bets if they continue to be calling stations to the end and relatively safe cards hit the river. These are the kind of players that teach you good lay down habits as well. When they raise you can feel pretty good about laying down your good second best hands when it would be tricky to do so against more agressive players. The only thing that can justify their play is implied odds. Make sure you are not the one paying them those odds when they raise.

Stop semibluffing altogether. If you have the nut flush draw against one calling station, it would be correct to bet against a normal player, but checking and calling is correct against this type. They will probably give you a free card anyway, if you are first to act. Raise the flop in position with a draw like this and take a free card if you don't hit on the turn. Resist the urge to keep up the cherade and bet the turn if you miss. Never ever bluff, even if you would be hardpressed to find someone calling, they will find a way. Value bet more, since they will tell you when you are badly beaten with a raise, and don't make crying calls when they do raise. If they bet out or raise and you don't have a strong hand, let it go. These players rarely bet without very strong hands, some don't bet top top on the flop. It's hard to tell where you stand against players like these, so just play your hands for the odds. If the odds are that your hand is good here (for example, top pair top kicker on the flop and turn), bet it. Once you get used to these kinds of games, they can be very profitable, and you'll be glad you figured them out. Good luck!

Hey John,

When playing against several calling stations, you need to make bets when you have the best hand,ie, top pair, one pair and a draw and things like that. But you shouldn't be afraid from betting really strong draws either. If they check to you, (as that's what calling stations usually do)......you can still put in a bet with a really strong draw. Those types of drawing hands, (the ones with real strong possobitlty to improve) are called the semi-bluff hands, and IMO, you can still bet those hands because you're looking at alot of outs to improve, because when you hold a really strong drawing hand with numerous outs, keep in mind, you still want there to be money in the pot and when you're in the hand with several calling stations here, they will *not* make any bets for you, so.....if they check to you, you still can put in a bet for value on the odds of hitting your strong draw, and if on the turn you don't improve, THEN you might apt for a free card if they check it to you again.

But hands that need real improvement to win, or trying to bluff bet at the pot, will not work as good against these types. So all in all....I would bet my real strong hands, my really strong drawing hands, and I would also bet one big pair for value as well because most of the time, calling stations will not bet.....but they will call.

But you have to make sure that you don't go betting middle pair into a bunch of these types, because all too often, they're afraid to bet their top pair because their kicker is weak. So make sure you have enough of the flop to bet, unless you're heads up with just one of them in the hand, then I would play my hand a little more aggresively. If you think you have the best hand, even just AK, I would still make an occasional bet into just one of these types of players (heads up), and wouldn't fear that every single time they held a piece of the flop but were afraid to bet it.

You don't want to become overly passive here yourself, you just need to be more aware when there's several of them in there with you and you don't flop good enough to bet. Keep the bluffing for the players that can be bluffed out of the pot, and play more of a straightfoward type of game against the calling stations. Another thing.....keep the check-raises for the aggresive types, they won't work against someone who will never bet....even if you check. BUT.....when a calling station does make that occasional bet, you *better* have something really good to call with!

Good luck, and "Welcome to the UPF".
