When a flop like 882 falls, and someone in early position takes a few seconds longer to act than normal, I find they've usually got the 8 and just deciding whether to slowplay it or bet out. Especially on rag flops when a player gets a free big blind.

Although when I'm on a draw say I have J9 with a flop of 10 10 8, I'll take the second just to scare the people into thinking I'm slowplaying.

Naturally a great bluff on a hand like that is also checking and calling on the flop, and then checking and raising on the turn, that alone has won me enough pots right out, and if I call I at least have a chance to catch my draw.

It can be different for different people. Some players will always pause if they have a monster, but bet a bluff immediately (I assume trying to appear weak when they are strong, and strong when they are weak).

Conversely, it's important to try to take the same amount of time before you bet. Obviously if you really need the time to think you should take it, but I try to wait a couple seconds before I bet no matter what. That way if I do have to think, or count odds, my bet won't take any longer than normal. You don't want to hold up the game, but it's important to not give off imformation as well.

Watch for people who have clicked the auto check/fold button. If you limp in the SB and see an instant check from the BB chances are good he's on bad cards and you can bluff at him without having a hand yourself.

...........Or on really good cards and by the time it got around to him, he's decided to slow play them.

It's not really accurate.

I've never seen that happen. It might happen sometimes, but it would be very rare.

Steve Badger covers some of them at the link above. Frankly, the whole site has worthwhile reading.

BTW Badger won a WSOP braclet in Omaha and has several articles on the subject. http://www.playwinningpoker.com/omaha/

I initially used the buttons to que my decision. I stopped doing that and now wait until my turn to make the selection

I was playing in a .5/1 game at UB a couple of nights ago and the player to my left would ALWAYS pre-select call-any when he had an A. Was very helpful indeed, especially when I raised with an AK or such.

Come to think of it, it seems to me now he also pre-selected raise-any when he held QQ or better PP.
