Pocket As: a hand comparison, MozMan, 11. Aug 2003 17:24

These two hands happened just two hands apart, and I thought they would make a good contrast. In the first, my opponent had pocket As that he tried to slow-play on me, in the second, I had the As and tried to slow-play them on him. We had very different results.

A side note, this gentleman had already played with me for well over two hours over several tables in the tourney, and had seen me very consistently play tight and aggressive; I came out firing when I had the goods, every time. I knew this, so I was beginning to mix it up considerably now that we were heads-up, and in both instances, let him bet into me when I knew I had the best hand. Here are the hands:

I think he got what he deserved for slowplaying his overpair with such a coordinated board. I'm just curious though, why didn't you bet the flop in the first hand? If he though you had the goods when you bet , it seems like a decent enough spot to try and pick up the pot. I'm surprised at his turn bet in the second hand. After I got called on the flop, I'd have to wonder about my jacks with a 4 kicker. Nice job though Moz, you played that boy like a fiddle!

In the first hand, I had the OE straight draw on the flop, and he had seen me semi-bluff (if that's the right term) my draws all night, so I was thinking that if I played it weak and took the free card he might think I wasn't actually on the draw. Then if I hit the str8, which I did, he might not believe it... which apparently worked.

Thanx for the compliment! :)
